Ranking All 836 Moons In Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey is the biggest game in the Mario franchise with 836 moons to collect over 17 kingdoms. These all range from boss fights, koopa free running, picture match, achievements, or really anything at all. With so many moons in Mario odyssey though, there are bound to be some that are worse than others. So today I am going to be ranking all 836 power moons in Super Mario Odyssey from the worst to the best. These will be judged based on their charm, aesthetic, difficulty, gameplays, and even speedrun strategies. Since the moons cover pretty much everything in the game, this will also sort of act like a kingdom and boss fight ranking video for odyssey. So, without much more delay, join me as I review every single moon, in Super Mario Odyssey.

This probably has been mentioned at this point, but I like that the moon name for the Seaside Kingdom boss starts as "The Glass is Half-Empty" then after the boss and grabbing the moon turns the name to "The Glass is Half-Full". It's subtle, but very clever.

Cappy's Hidden treasure, although controversial, was a really good moon in my opinion, it’s like a scavenger hunt that keeps you looking when think you’ve finally found it.

Yellow = Standard
Purple = Story
Orange = Sub-Area
Green = Minigame
Red = moon rock
Blue = moon rock sub-area

This was a fantastic video! Also, there IS a difference between the Spewart fights other than the area changing, but it's so subtle that I don't blame you for not knowing it. In the Wooded Kingdom one, Spewart always stays precisely in the center of the arena, while in Luncheon and Dark Side, he walks towards you. If you complete it fast, you'll never notice it.

To be honest, The Forgotten Treasure is one of, if not my favourite moon(s), simply because I find it really sweet that Mario is helping out Cappy and his old friend, revealing that Cappy had a whole life before deciding to help Mario. It almost seems like a favour. I personally don’t find it tedious, just because it i don’t think it takes that long to do. Obviously, that’s just my opinion, though.

For Moon 836, you can actually go in the exact middle of the plant with the coin cougher, and shake the controller to spit a bunch of coins. You might miss a couple of coins, but I think it’s faster than spitting them out one by one.

Fun fact: The shape for the trace walking on the moon was originally meant to be a star, but the devs decided that it was too difficult and changed it to a circle instead

For Moon #273, I would place it higher than the previous Moon not because of the instrument Mario plays, but because the Skeleton outfit is also allowed in that room. Mario then plays air guitar instead of a regular guitar.

Something worth noting is that due to some of the moons being Multi moons / worth 3 moons (those being Multi moon atop the falls, Showdown at the inverted Pyramid, a Hole in the desert, The Broodals over the lake, Flower Thieves of Sky Garden, Defend the Secret Flower Field!, New Donk City’s pest Problem, A Traditional Festival!, The Bound Bowl Grand Prix, The Glass is Half full!, Big Pot on the volcano: Dive in!, Cookatiel Showdown!, Battle with the Lord if Lightning!, Showdown at Bowser’s Castle, Tossle in Tostareena: Rematch, Dust up in New Donk city: rematch, Rumble in Crumbleden: Rematch, Showdown at Steam Gardens: Rematch, Battle at Mount Volbono: Rematch, Arrival at Rabbit ridge and Long journey’s end), the final moon count in the game is Actually 880 moons

Just so you know, on #823, you can just throw the rock from the top of the dragon. I think that is the intended solution.

I love the flying sphinx moons because it brings context as to how the sphinx is getting between kingdoms, in a really funny way.

Actually, moon 834 (Beach Volleyball: Hero of the Beach) was my last moon before the 100% completion. Totally agree on the placement

This video is amazing, it must have taken so much effort!

I have so many memories from this game:
-Being stuck in lost kingdom because I had no idea how to get Cappy back
-Only realising in Luncheon I could catch Piranha plants
-Being more focused on getting the collectables for the Odyssey than the story
-Being Cappy when playing with someone else in 2 player mode


I may not be the best at the game but I still love that it can adjust itself to your skillset. I probably won’t get all of the moons but I still love this game. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. :)
