Visualization of gas flow in a multilayer CMT process (slow motion)

Video shows a CMT process adding a new layer to a structure. Used filler material is a Ni-based superalloy solid wire. The video was taken with a high-speed camera and CAVILUX laser illumination. Illumination is applied from front to see the details of the core process. In addition, the system is placed in a Schlieren imaging setup to visualize the flow of the shielding gas. CAVILUX laser illumination with short pulses is used as light source also for the Schlieren setup. This provides high quality images without motion blur.
