WHAT HAPPENED to Jacqueline Kennedy’s pink suit after the assassination of JFK? The suit, with navy trim and matching pill box hat, is one of the most famous historical fashion moments of the 20th century and perhaps all of history and First Lady Jackie Kennedy continued to wear it for the rest of the day after her husband’s death, despite the fact that it was covered in his blood. However it has not been seen publicly since she returned to the White House in the early hours the following morning. The hat was removed while she was at Parkland Hospital in the hour or so after the shooting on Dealey Plaza and has never been traced. The suit and Jackie’s shoes and handbag ended up in storage at the National Archives in Maryland and won’t be seen again by the general public until 2103 at the earliest, as per the instructions of her daughter, Caroline Kennedy. Jackie Kennedy’s pink suit may have been just one small part of the Kennedy assassination, but it continues to intrigue historians and the public to this day and is an integral part of American history. #shorts

The look on her face during LBJ being sworn into office always gets to me. I'm amazed she even had the strength to stand there by that point.

A truly unforgettable tragic day. I was 18 years old. Every moment of the 3 days of national mourning is seared into my memory.

I still remember that day. I was a little boy about 4 1/2 years old. My mom took me to the barbershop and the barber asked us if we heard about the president being assassinated in Dallas, Texas. My mom thought he didn’t know what he was talking about. After my haircut we went home and found out that President Kennedy had been assassinated. Both Mom and Dad are dead now but I still recall that day. Even seeing on the news LBJ being sworn in as president. I just thought I would share.

I grew up in San Francisco and I was downtown at the time. I was 13. People were openly crying. That day is seared into my memory. The day that Camelot died.

I was a 4 year old living in Anchorage Alaska. My mom got a call from my dad informing her of the terrible news. I didn’t understand why my mom was crying, thought I had been bad or something. Watching tv that entire weekend, Oswald getting shot on live television, the riderless horse. Memories that are seared into my mind for all my time left on earth.

I am not sure that I want to see the suit ever. That day I was just old enough to remember what was happening on the tv. I have been to Dealy Plaza, and looked out through the same window as they say the assassin did. Even now, over 50 years after the day CAMELOT ended, I can do nothing but cry.. for the President and his young family..

She was the original badass. The best dressed ever badass. The quiet beauty of bad-assery.

I was 18 years old and in PE class. It was announced over the PA system. Everyone stopped and just stood in shock. I don’t remember the rest of the day.

She had a duplicate suit, with the same matching hat, in medium golden yellow. She was wearing it a year later when I met her in NYC.

LBJ ! The picture that shows the vice president being sworn in . His hand is NOT resting on a Holy Bible. This was done for a reason. LBJ insisted on it!!!

I’m sure the hat is in someone’s family heirlooms only to be seen by trusted family members…..it would be nice if it was reunited with the suit.
