While I was hanging my hummingbird feeder back up after changing out the sugar water, I looked up and a hummingbird was just _there_, about a foot away. I tried to stay really still to not scare it and it moved slightly a few times, but soon decided to fly away. However, while it was staying mostly in the same spot, I heard it chirping, which was really cute and cool since I never knew they chirped before then!

Hummingbirds are adorable and beautiful creatures and the way they fly is so effortless it's like they're dancing in the air.

It's incredible to think that they're distantly related to the T-Rex.

I had six come visit and sit on the feeder together calmly the other day right before sunset. I think they were migrating. I live in Arizona I was able to get it on video. It was magical to see them all together!

This morning while I was refilling my feeders, a humming bird came around the corner expecting his feeder. Instead he found the back of my head at the same place the feeder is normally located. Thus, m he quickly made a 180 degree turn and got within about 18 inches of my head. The sound of his wings making that sharp turn sounded very similar to a Star Wars lightsaber, which is a combination of a humming and buzzing sound.

When they hover, you can hear the wings flap really fast and it creates a humming, vibrating, buzzing type noise. Its surprising how loud it can be for just a teeny tiny bird flapping its wings. Small hummers can make a buzzing sound similar to a wasp that is inches from your ear. Bigger birds can sound like certain vibrating instruments or motors (such as a cellphone in "vibrate mode").
