If you find yourself obsessing over a guy, you're not alone. Here are some tips for disconnecting so you can regain your own energy and peace of mind.
To sum it up, if you are going through something like this, the first thing you need to know is it IS a big deal, and you're not alone - a lot of people go through this. It's a big deal because it's taking up a lot of your consciousness and your life force energy - so, rather than focusing on yourself or your work or whatever it is you are doing, your are letting all of your energy go to that other person.
To tackle it and stop the thoughts, think of it as you would if you were quitting smoking or going on a major diet.
Here are 3 basic things you can do to start the process:
1. Work on changing your thoughts. Thinking about someone all the time creates a habit. Your brain just gets used to the habit. So in order to re-train your brain, pivot your thoughts to something else the minute the other person comes to mind. In doing this, you will train yourself to NOT go into obsessive thoughts about the other person.
2. Practice mindfulness - focusing on the present moment and being fully present. It will calm your energy, help you get more centered and grounded, and will sharpen your awareness. When you think about someone a lot, a part of your energetic vibration is with that person. That makes you unable to focus, spacey, and not as powerful as you could be. You just won't be as effective as you could be if all of your energy was with you right now.
3. Try to see the person for who they really are. We tend to idolize the other person and imagine them to be a different and better (or more exciting, or more fun, or more wonderful) person than they really are. In reality, they may not be as amazing or cool as you might think. Try and think of their negative qualities and realize that they are not the be-all end-all of everything.
Many people go through this, again, and you are not alone in this. But by working on re-claiming your power, you will find yourself much more at peace, liberated, and free from that angsty feeling you get when someone is constantly on your mind.
