My recommended list In no particular order:

7 Wonders Duel (great spin on a classic)
Star Realms (Great, rather simple deck-builder. Hero Realms works just as well if you prefer fantasy themes)
Radlands (Newer 1v1 duel card game with nice aesthetic)
Acension Tactics (Similar to Star Realms in the deck-building aspect combined with miniatures/standees on a board that you control with your deck)
Crokinole (The best dexterity game imo)
Memoir '44 (classic 1v1 war game)
Undaunted (newer deck-building war game)

Then there's a bunch of co-op games that works great with two players, Sleeping Gods, Pandemic Legacy, LOTR: Journeys in Middle-Earth, Star Was Outer Rim, Gloomhaven JOTL and many others.

Have you tried Caper: Europe? It's very smooth playing and really fun mechanic of drafting (exchanging hands) with your opponent

My wife and I enjoy quick, simple two-player games. They're great for after we get our daughter to bed. Lost Cities, Jaipur, and Air, Land, & Sea are some of our favorites.

As for other suggestions, Fox in the Forest is good (if you like trick taking); Shotten Totten (aka Battle Line) is another Knizia that provides a similar feel to Lost Cities; Circle the Wagons is our favorite from Button Shy; and no two-player list is complete without Seven Wonders Duel (one of my favorite games of all time).

Thanks for another great list! I'm looking forward to trying out some of your suggestions, and you're totally right: just talking about games on my shelf makes me want to play them, even if it's been a while since they've hit the table.

I love patchwork, Jaipur, Fox in the Forest, 7 wonders duel, and Schotten Totten. I have Targi headed my way and can’t wait to try it, too. I found Air, Land, and Sea underwhelming our first time playing but I think we need to learn the deck better to appreciate the choices and strategy.

I’ve also heard good things about Paris and want to try it as well as Land vs Sea, Caper: Europe, and many more.

It was very good that you included Patchwork, it's an excellent 2 player. Here are a few more: Spirits of the Wild was surprisingly a very good game, from Hasbro of all places. I definitely encourage you to check it out. Also, At the Gates of Loyang and Agricola both play very well at 2 players with a maximum of 4 players for each of these. The Spirits of the Wild game is only for 2 players, btw

I really enjoy 5 Minute Dungeon and the Curses Expansion, I also love Here To Slay, and Wrong Party is a lot of fun too.

Go is the best two player board game.
3500 years old and still the best.

You should try Mandala, my favorite for just 2. Good list.

Any reason why not writing the games as well in the discriprion?

Also patch work is the wrost game I've ever played! Hated every single moment of it can't recommend it to anyone at all...

As for two players (only?) to try, try also plan island, micro city, any oniverse (Onirim, Sylvion, Urbion, Nautilion, Aerion, Castilon), shake up, sweet spot
