This song brings me to tears every time. It was always my song for my daughter. But when she woke up from brain surgery in 1993 and "Smiled at me" in recovery and said "Hi Mommy" it took on a whole new meaning. And I knew everything was gonna be alright.

John Waite the lead singer had success with a band called THE BABY'S from the late 70's, "Isn't It Time" "Back On My Feet Again" "Every time I Think Of You" are classics, He also had a successful solo career in the 80"s "Missing You" was a world wide hit he does an amazing version of it with Alisson Krauss

The singer was from "The Babys". They had a few songs you really should give a listen to. Try "Every Time I think of You" and " Isn't it Time". They both have amazing "Midnight Special" footage. They are classic 70's with amazing backup singers.

Seeing John Waite singing here reminded me of his 1984 hit, 'I Ain't Missing You'. It was one of the biggest hits of the 80s! It’s funny you guys mention the drummer: that is the great Deen Castronovo, currently the drummer for Journey and he can SING. He sounds almost exactly like Steve Perry while playing the drums. Just search “Deen Castronovo - Mother, Father or Still They Ride” and you will lose your mind!!!

The lead singer is John Waite. This band lasted from 1987-1991. Before this group he was the lead singers of The Babys from 1975-1981. He also had a solo career when he wasn't with other bands. One of his biggest solo songs was "Missing You". You should also check out the The Babys... like "Every Time I Think of You" or "Head First".
