“God only Knows”, also from this album, is possibly the best song of the Beach Boys. I could live without anything else from these talented fellows.

In the 60's, if the Beatles didn't have at the top song on the charts, it was The Beach Boys. They're still performing.

Paul McCartney said their "God Only Knows" is the best song every written.

Their "California Girls", "Good Vibrations" and "Fun Fun Fun" are next for you!!! The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, selling well over 100 million records worldwide.

The Beach boys are an American institution, they have been around forever and enjoy enormous popularity. Personally, it's not my kind of music but I appreciate their talent and staying power.

The Beatles, the Stones and the Beach Boys are the great triumvirate of '60s bands. All of them are bottomless rabbit holes of greatness.

They were in a friendly production value battle with The Beatles. On each album, each band would push the other on technological and compositional complexity. It was a lot of fun to witness Brian Wilson going up against Lennon and McCartney and George Martin. A bunch of geniuses having a pillow fight with sound. If you do Good Vibrations, consider doing the in-studio version where you can see The Wrecking Crew actually playing for the band (as they did for countless bands).

The harp-like instrument heard in the introduction is a 12-string mando-guitar plugged directly into the recording console.

California sound in the 60's. It was great to grow up to this music.

All of the Beach Boys' songs are too short! Dude, I thought you were going to cry, but that is exactly how some of their songs make me feel too. Their harmonies are unbelievably beautiful. The Beach Boys started making records around the same time our family moved to southern California. Most of their songs are about fast cars, surfing, the beach and being a teenager so their music was part of the background of our lives. In My Room, Don't Worry Baby, Little Deuce Coupe, Fun Fun Fun, Darlin', Dance Dance Dance, I Can Hear Music. And for Christmas there's Little Saint Nick. Great band live too, very fun. I didn't see them until maybe 1979 but we were all still crazy for them.

Brian Wilson is a musical genius. Some of my all time favs from them: 409, Little Duece Coup; Long Tall Texan, Little Old Lady from Pasadena and Kokomo!

I love George's face as melody kicked in, he felt that beach vibe and nostalgia.

The Beach Boys and the Beatles were in an escalating battle of pop music in the late 60s. The culmination for the Beach Boys was the album "Pet Sounds", which inspired the Beatles to do Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club. In the meantime, the Beach Boys produced a range of fun pop hits ("Fun Fun Fun", "California Girls", "Help Me Rhonda", etc.) and more intricate classics ("Good Vibrations", "God Only Knows", "Caroline, No"). They defined the surf rock sound for decades, including their late hit "Kokomo".

Their songs have innocent/sweet lyrics from the early to mid-60s. They feel like summertime.
