Moscow has the biggest electric buses fleet, because they have replaced the trolleybuses. Moscow used to have vast extensive network of trolleybus routes, but Mayor of Moscow along with the Department of Public Transit have decided there's too much wires overhead. Thus they've placed the bid to choose from several models of electric buses, and later all the trolleybuses and the power wires were removed from streets in favor of electric buses. Only one trolleybus route now remans as the heritage and sightseeing route in the city centre.
BTW, the letters on the side of the vehicle say "THIS IS ELECTROBUS".

Russia is way ahead of American cities in terms of an electrified bus fleet. We're just getting the ZX5's from Proterra here in Chicago for just one route.

Quote:
-Moscow was ranked third in the UN–HABITAT City Prosperity Index. UN experts analyzed the following developments in 29 major cities of the world: infrastructure, equity and social inclusion, quality of life, productivity, environmental sustainability and urban governance and legislation.
The Russian capital scored 67.98 points, coming third after Singapore (75.49) and Toronto (68.29). The top 10 also included Sydney, London, Paris, Madrid, Shanghai, Hong Kong and New York.
However, Moscow topped the Infrastructure Development Rating with 83.2 points, overtaking Hong Kong (78.16). The Infrastructure Development Index takes into account housing and social infrastructure, information and communications technology, urban mobility and other indicators.
Moscow also ranked first in the Quality of Life Dimension Ranking, which accounts for a total of 14 indicators, such as health, education, recreation, safety and others-
..
So these buses helps a lot at infrastructure and quality of life, i guess :)

Well no surprise there at all. The concept of electrically driven buses was implemented extensively throughout Soviet Union cities in the form of trolleybuses before. So basically these are wireless trolleybuses

I could be wrong, but the beginning of the shooting seems to be near the Kievsky railway station in Moscow (a glass bridge across the Moscow River is visible behind Russell). Familiar places, I worked there ..

TBH in the beginning, changing all our trolleybuses with electric buses seemed like a bad idea, and i was not very fond of my mayor, but in the end, other cities got trolleybuses in pretty good condition (i was living for 9 years near trolleybus depot and seen a lot of units, most of them are ok), which is good in my opinion, and electric buses are not that bad. Yes, first packs were not good, but problems were solved and now i can say, that Sobyanin was right in that decision.

Hi Russel. Another fun fact about Russian public transport: our trains never go off schedule. Suburban and long distance trains are always on time. I know it for sure as I live near a big train hub and literally see arriving trains every day. In Germany, where they are said to be punctual, trains are often late. I even missed a flight once because my train was delayed by half an hour. That’s unimaginable in Russia! Go and check it )))
