Might sound obvious, but don’t give you bank info or money to anyone. My bunk mate in army basic, gave his mom his bank info so she could pay a bill. The last day before graduation we walked to the ox to buy some shit and his card we declined. His mom cleared the account… be careful y’all

My enlistment bonus is supposed to be $35, 000, shipping out in September. $15, 000 for joining the reserves and $20, 000 for the job (or the other way around).
You have to make your home work and tell recruiters to look up bonuses in their internal documents. They might not even know about most of them. And then, you have to make sure those classifiers at MEPS put these numbers in your contract.

Back when I went in nobody got a bonus to join. Strangely after bootcamp I did have some money saved up but it really wasn't all that much. I made E3 coming out and E4 two years later. I didn't really see my bank account grow until I deployed overseas for 9 months. The seapay, family separation, war zone pay, etc really fattened up my bank account. I was deployed on a ship in the rating of Electronics Technician.
So in my case I was living paycheck to paycheck until that long deployment in year 3.
At the end of my enlistment in year 6 I was offered a $40k re-enlist bonus and shore duty for two years. I had also applied for OCS. ... Nope, changed my mind after getting 5 job offers from big tech. I did miss the Navy but it felt really good working 8-5 with weekends and all holidays off.
Everybody's situation is different but that's my story.

I’m joining the Navy due to the enlistment bonus. My recruiters say they have no authority to say how much or if any enlistment bonus but MEPs will let me know. I’m waiting for MEPs to call my recruiter back after we submitted the family care plan. I left the Army as an E-4, so I guess MEPs will let me know if I can get my E-4 back or not. 😅

I served a long time ago. 1996-2006 I believe that we shouldn't require our service members to pay for their entire seabag from their paycheck. Considering you get a uniform allowance later. Why do they make us pay for them? You don't make sailors pay for the fuel on the airplane that gets you there or to your school after. So many examples of things we don't pay for yet, the expensive uniforms and the Navy have the most uniforms and uniform expenses is just ridiculous. They should stick to BDU's and one dress uniform.

Im on my way to bootcamp on August 28th, starting at E-3, however, I sadly did not get any bonuses right before I joined/picked an occupation as a sailor. They said... most jobs right now are occupied... and since I am not a US citizen yet, the job lists i've received were less than normal? Almost seemed like I joined at the wrong time. sadsge

Someone I knew, in 1978, told moi, tu/vous can enter basic training, as an E-2 if tu/vous snookers 2 people into joining the Navy.

I spoke with a recruiter here in San Diego and the bonus is $20k but the recruiter said it may changes or be extinguished in March 1, 2024.😢

i didn't talk about signing bonus at all. im starting bottom of the food chain. E-1. but signing bonus is up to $140k now depending on what rate you get

So you have to pay for your Seabag out of your first check now instead of working 'Service week' where you are assigned a job somewhere on the base?
I did a week at the RTC pool sanitizing bleachers, helping pull people who freaked out when they were pushed in. Then I got to hang out and go swimming until the Instructors were ready to leave.
Still I graduated with like $174. In the bank. Dress Blues were like $65 I think. Dungarees were 11 shirts $7.
