Unboxing the Atari VCS

So, in today's video, I unbox the Atari VCS, released in 2021 after a crowdfunding campaign. How does it hold up in 2024?

Note: from 20:37 - 21:03 there's copyrighted music (the menu music) so I am having YouTube remove it. Audio may sound strange in that section.

Some "tips" to help you out:

Download the firmware from one of the links above.
Create the USB installer using a USB stick at least 2 GB
Insert into the VCS and power on or restart
At the boot options, boot from USB

Update BIOS first!

Best to clear the password:
Setup Utility
Enter current password (The Atari Celebrates one from the forum)
Go to Security
Set Supervisor Password
Enter current password (same as above)
hit enter twice to clear it (save a blank password)

Disable Secure Boot:
Administer SecureBoot Settings
Disable
F10

Should be able to install ANY OS, not just those supporting boot keys

Now can update using the image provided in the link

Seems like settings will be wiped.

For this cheap close-out price, this does make a good mini PC at a steal. I wish that this console had taken off more for Atari.

FYI the classic controller is the paddle as well for playing breakout another games like circus Atari

I'd like to find one of these refurb'd on the cheap.
Ultimately I was Crazy Excited for this thing, bought Atari Stock again even.
Never saw the reason to get this, Imma pick up an 7800+ to sit next to my OG 7800 thought!

You may know this by now but the VCS doesn't support an internal NVME drive. It only works with m.2 SATA SSDs.

Does the classic controller stick twist not work as a paddle on the arcade version? Bc thats a feature if the classicn

Once you get batocera v40 on it you will never need to use the atariOS again. Overall I'm very satisfied with my $100 batocera system!
