In this video, I show you how to turn a car smoothly. It is a driving lesson that is geared towards beginner drivers. It is important to turn the vehicle in a smooth manner when you are learning to drive because it will show that you have control of the car! The 2 key factors for turning a car smoothly are maintaining a consistent speed with regards to turning the steering wheel, and keeping the same vehicle speed throughout the duration of the turn.

I don't know about you guys but I don't like it when your parents are teaching you how to drive and they yell at you!
You'll lose your confidence and concentration.
Which will make they yell at you more!
What the heck!

My trouble isn’t the wheel, but the acceleration when turning. I never know how much to put on my sharp right turns and whether I should press the gas before turning, at the same time, or after :/

Edit: Cant believe I wrote this comment lol. I figured it out and got my full license since then. Driving is now second nature

I absolutely suck at turning. My mom doesn't help me learn. Thank you for this.

My driving instructor loves to yell, so when I’m doing something wrong he’ll literally yell... driving is much scarier now 😑 THIS VIDEO HELPED BTW

Parents yelling at kids> husbands yelling at wives > driving instructors yelling😣 I guess learning to drive is an overwhelming yelling experience. Sigh

For those who have trouble turning make sure your seat is adjusted properly. Many of my students who struggle will drastically improve by simply moving the seat 1/2 higher and 1 inch closer to the wheel. There should be a nice 20-45 degree bend in your arm without leaning forward (practice hand over hand steering like he did in this video and there should be no leaning forward of you shoulders). This will also psychologically make you feel more in control of the vehicle.

You should also talk about the use of gas pedal while turning.

nobody talks about it

thats very important in maintaining the right speed for turning

Honestly just watching this gives me more confidence. Not having it is strange to me because I am a VERY confident person but attempting to drive with others just scares me a bit.

All good but as a 10 year driving instructor its best to learn on a golf cart, utv, or riding lawn mower first. Then when in the car practice for 30 min in a parking lot with no acceleration (baby steps). The harder part is knowing when to let go of the wheel when coming out of the turn. Its also best to do push/pull steering (or my methods i call pull/grab and push/grab) this way 2 hands are on the wheel more which is safer because in a wreck its nice to have something solid to grab onto even if it is only for a split second. Also sometimes the more you explain things the worse the driving gets. Some instructors get too technical even calculating weird speed/angle-of-turn ratios (which i dont like because the new driver is likely to look at their speed in the middle of the turn). For parents and new driving instructors dont wait till the driver has mastered turns in a parking lot before entering the street. As soon as they have a desent grasp of turning, then take them on the road. If things dont smooth out in an hour, go back to the parking lot. When in the parking lot work on only 1 thing first, then add other techniques into it. For example dont say "this next row lets turn sure you let the wheel go about half way through the turn....check your your lane for hazards....keep your eyes moving left to right." Now this is easy for an experienced driver but for a newbie this is tmi. Add the difference safety techniques gradually, not all at once. Dont yell, snap, or show impatience. A new drivers confidence is directly related to your confidence (calmness). Have fun with it - dont stress the little things. Dont knit pick even though you think your helping. Let small errors slide - mentioning small errors that will probably fix themselves anyways will just distract the new driver. Parents your 3 most important words are "cover the brake". Communication is the key. Tell your kid to interrupt you if they have a question or concern. There's lots more to being a good instructor. This guy's videos are pretty good so i would recommend to keep watching him.

Just took my first driving lesson, it was okay and the only problems I had was turning and controlling the speed in general, but overall it was good
