Look I hate to this this, I'm from Chicago as well... but the reality is for whatever reasons the south and west side are literally war zones, it a problem I don't have the answer for, I'm just saying people need to understand how bad it is in those areas and policing them is impossible and I know I wouldn't risk my life for 80 grand a year... there's no easy answer except just move or put an armed marine on every street corner...😭

This is one of the big problems is everyone wants to scream and shout, but most don't wanna do anything about it . Its a hard job, where most of the people you run into are gonna hate you . You can see the guy in this piece was afraid of what people will think of him and what he might see in his own community and will he have the fortitude to do the job .

How do the officers themselves feel about this?

I got out of the Air Force, 12 years as a Security Policeman, with two Associate Degrees, almost a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice. Applied for Houston Police Department (yes I'm white), read in the paper the next day that HPD was increasing minority applicants. Never got a call back. This was at the end of Desert Storm, when many departments nationally started the same programs. There were forums of white military police who were given the same treatment as I was. That worked out well, speaking at least for Houston, having to lower the bar in order to be able to hire minorities (even to the point of allowing minor criminal convictions for those applicants), with a rise in negative police actions. I think the department and the City, along with it's citizens paid for that.
