It's a pity Network Rail is phasing these out, for they're fascinating to just sit watch all the levers being moved and hear the chime of the block bells going off. I've taken a shine to them, and I'm building one out in my back garden (it's really more of a tiny house that's styled as a railroad station, but I do want to put in a miniature lever frame and a set of block instruments, both operational, on one wall as an homage to my liking of UK signal boxes)

Over here in the States, practically all of the manual interlockings were done away with years ago, so it's rather impressive to hear that so many are still in use in the UK after all this time.

Thanks for Posting this. Unfortunately it is now too late for all of the boxes on the Blackpool Nth line. I have seen what Network  Rail did with them all; smashing them all to nothing, without a hint of interest for our Railway Heritage. No thought given to preserving ANY of them, or allowing even one to be preserved and open to locals or Tourist projects. As a Signalman myself 1978-88, I attended meetings etc regarding the [eventual] Electrification of the line, and possible related benefits - BEFORE NETWORK RAIL OR ANYONE ACCUSES ME OF BEING A LUDDITE. But considering how quickly they removed them and their unique place in local and Railway History it is THEY, who were the real Luddites and vandals. Given my personal working knowledge of the area and each Signal Box along the Blackpool Nth and Sth Lines, as well as the old Wyre Branch, I am sure that at least five could have been preserved and made available to visit by the Public - Safely and in a manner that would have added interest in Local History. SHAME on you Network Rail.

I thought motor points like DM6 operated by a lever frame usually has the lever check locked in the B or D position until the points are detected in the correct position then it can be moved fully normal or reversed? Does this no longer apply? I think the A backlock position for signals still is in operation or has that been removed as well?
