OUR MARBLES
“REFERENCE TO THE PARTHENON SCULPTURES”

"Our Marbles" is a documentary about a black page for culture and the protection of world cultural heritage. It refers to the unprecedented in world history, act of removing archaeological treasure by Lord Elgin in the early 19th century. An act that led to the collapse and dismemberment of the entire building complex of the Acropolis and at the same time to a vandal and criminal removal of almost half of its surviving sculptures. Sculptures of a monument, which is perhaps the most emblematic monument of humanity. A monument whose main building, the Parthenon, is the archetype of culture and democracy.
An act of incomprehensible looting and an unprecedented dismemberment of works of incredible art by Pheidias, Agoracritos, Alkamenes. An inconceivable and however absurd it may seem antagonistic act of foreign looters who filled all the European courts with archaeological treasures. The European courts that functioned as thieves, paying huge sums of money to looters. Among them we should mention the Bavarian court of Otto's father. It should be noted that all this took place at the time when the European courts with the Treaty of Vienna in 1815 obliged the defeated France to return all antiquities and other artistic treasures, which Napoleon had seized at the time of his omnipotence. For what they had seized themselves from all other peoples, there is no reason to do so.
Our documentary has been screened at many festivals in various countries, such as Los Angeles' Green Earth, the Chicago Film Festival, the Lake City and Inshore Festivals in Africa, the AFC Global Festival in Kolkata, Docademia's 4th Documentary Contest of the United States, the Archaeology Channel International Film Festival of the United States, The Lift-Off Sessions of the United Kingdom, The Festival of Chalkida, as well as in many other festivals and has left the best impressions.
