Couldn’t agree more. If you wait for the muses, right conditions, perfect image, you’ll hardly do a thing. I’m a painter and I share this view. I never tire of the massive amount of inspiration out there. Always something to paint or draw - or just look at.

I am definitely guilty of talking myself out of going to a location; Add social anxiety to it and it's even easier. But of late I have been practicing what you just preached, managing my expectations and being more relaxed about the whole process. Beautiful shot!

I live in a region which is semi-arid (not a desert). Everything here is so dull, dusty and plain. Even trees are thorny, scrappy and pale.
I always think how lucky you guys are to live in such beautiful locations and still some people complain that there is nothing to shoot.
I go crazy when I see slightest of lush green landscapes or a beach or mountains.

I really like that we get to the see the raw file with the final image. As a beginner, I've probably let a lot of decent pictures get away becuase I didn't see the potential in the raw file.

Thank you for the message of "Get out there!" I am quite new and also appreciate the RAW v processed files. An interesting perspective!

I have talked myself out of so many outings with my camera. I now belong to a U3A Photography Group and we set regular days for our trips and I find that really helps. I am the lead for the group, so people expect me to turn up.

Having a day off on Thursday I sat Wednesday night talking myself in & out of going out with the camera. Watching the video made up my mind to go out. I went to a place I had been before & always thought there was something there. I had a great day, fantastic waterfall to myself all day, some fighter jets flying low through the valley adding occasional noise & excitement added to the day. Even if the shots aren’t what I want I had a great day. Inspirational Mr Heaton.

I think since taking up this hobby - it simply enables you to see things in a different way. The tree you used to walk past that was just a tree - yet now it has becomes an amazing layered muse, in rains the droplets trickle down the stems, the colours of the leaves come alive in the morning light, and the birds that feast on the flowers provide an abundance of even more opportunities. So absolutely agree.. get out there... open your eyes... make the ordinary - the extraordinary :)

"Beginner's magic" - what a lovely term. Sometimes I look back at my earliest photos and can't believe the shots I got. All because I just got out there, lingered, and looked. Thank you for that reminder !

This resonated so much! Nothing worse than perfectionism coupled with procrastination. I’ve been stuck in that for days. Wishing I was somewhere in the UK photographing the incredible scenery that I watch on this channel and others. But now, I’m changing my mindset and doing art for art sake - or rather, photography for photography’s sake.

3:28 stunning, 6:43 beautiful, 9:29 very minimalist, thanks for the images and the message Thomas

When I'm not motivated I think of people that life far away and what they would be willing to do to come to my location just to see the landscape and shoot photos. Works like a charm :-)

Just love your shots at 6:40 and 11:18. I've been struggling to get my "Mojo" back for far too long now and this latest motivational advice from you may be what I need. Thanks Tom.

I love these words. They are so true. I am getting out a lot more than what I use to. I am working on a documentary within a city. But getting out and going after the images is still a good thing. For me, if the weather is not good I at least got some images that help me figure out better ways to take the images when I come back to reshoot a neighborhood center (main retail point within a neighborhood).

Possibly the best mindset to have for beginner and even professional photographers. Enjoy the process. Fall in love with being out in the world. The images will come, often, like love, when you least expect it. 👍🇨🇦

Thanks for the pep talk. It’s important to throw away the negatives and as you say enjoy the journey and experience.

I just want to make the point of pointing out how comfortable you seem talking to a camera in a public space in this video. It wasn't so long ago that I can remember you feeling very "off" when doing a bit to the camera with people around

Great video as always

I forced myself out this past weekend to do street photography in the Washington DC area and I am really happy I did.

Getting a good image didn’t matter. Enjoying the process mattered. I think because of that I still got images I like a lot.

I was photographing a moment, and I enjoy looking back at that moment.
