Human Metabolism Map VIII - Ketone Body Production

preview_player
Показать описание
Explore Ketone Body Production in this video from the Human Metabolism Map series, focusing on how the liver generates ketones during fasting, starvation, and diabetes. Understand the roles of HMG-CoA synthase and lyase, the types of ketone bodies, and their clinical significance—essential for biochemistry and metabolic pathway review.

You don't want to know how relieved I am by seeing your posts about the human metabolism. I'm gonna rock this test I have tomorrow!!

Yes certainly. In the brain for example, it will be converted to Acetyl CoA, then back to glucose for energy!

Could you make this Human Metabolism Map available to download?

GREAT job by the way. You're definately one of the best. Thanks

Correction at 2:00 - Acetyl-CoA from ketone bodies do NOT get converted to glucose

you have saved me so many times in explaining thing in a much clear but still keeping the details required...THANK YOU sSO MUCH...currently its 5AM and i have an exam in 4.5 hours.

Your videos were the most useful for my biochemistry study.
Passed (very well) the exam and that's just because of you.
Thanx straight from my heart (and from Italy!)
Wish you all the best! :)
(Can't wait to start physiology lectures!!)

I'm glad there's somebody out there who understands this stuff. This vid was way over my head. All I know is when I pee on the stick, and it turns purple, I'm losing weight.

Hi, really like your videos :) I think you made a mistake in this one though; Acetyl CoA cannot be converted to glucose (the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex-reaction is irreversible). It seems like the only way by which Acetyl CoA can become glucose is indirectly, if it enters the TCA and is part of the generated Oxaloacetate, which can then enter Gluconeogenesis. Perhaps this is what you meant?

Nice, is there any chance to cover the pathway of how ketone bodies are converted back to acetyl-CoA in the target tissues?

thanks a lot for these great videos .but could you present the whole map in one of your videos

But when acetyl-CoA is converted to ketone bodies - it would just be converted back to acetyl CoA again? That seemes such a waste? Because in order for glucose to provide energy - it would have to be taken into the TCA cycle (and thereby be broken down to Acetyl CoA in order to enter the cykle), am I wrong? I dont really get it...

Do cells need insulin to enter the cells (like; heart, brain, muscle and other cells in the body), like glucose does?
