I always find it odd when think Africa isn't diverse. The distance from South Africa to Algeria is farther than the distance from Algeria to Norway, and look at how vastly different the cultures are between those points. Africa is obviously very diverse. I spent some time in South Africa, and no two areas of that country are the same. It was beautiful, too.

I find the Sahel region fascinating. It's like living next to an ocean, but the waves are sand.
But more importantly it's where countless very different cultures meet.

I enjoyed this video. I think in more recent years in the UK a general understanding that Africa is diverse and not all poor and starving has really come about, but for me it's still hard to truly understand it in anything other than an academic sense. Maybe I've been exposed to too many of those annual charity telethons, which portray Africa as one entity that is all poor and starving. Or perhaps I'm just more closed-minded than I like to think.

I need to do more research! I know about some of the history of some small parts of the continent, but I think I need to know more to truly appreciate it. Thanks for kickstarting that process.
