How easily he acknowledges his fear, he is truly a champion

Carlsen at his peak was unstoppable. Anand was a beast in his prime too, took down Kramnik. Kramnik at his peak of course took down Kasparov. Etc. Each champion had a peak valley. It is hard to maintain that form over time.

people talk about Anand 's chess skills and his great attitude only.. But what I want to draw attention to.. is that he was WAY ahead of his time.. for ex : Fischer had Morphy to look upto... Kasparov had a lot of soviet players to look up to... But for Anand, not only was he the first GM ( or second ? )but went on to become the world champ and one of the all time Greats... He was the one for next gen Indians to look upto but who did he have to look upto..?? In his formative years, India did not have a chess establishment, former champs to look upto or great respect or support for the sport.. If you assess his success against the odds he faced, then you can truly appreciate his success

"...finally equalized my lifetime score...." A gracious and well worded reply.

People like Anand and Spassky might be the chess players one could hang out with and have a good time. Genius but humble. Treading that line between assertive and aggressive..

"How I learned to stop worrying and love the Vishy"
Featuring such riveting lines as:
"I am become Vishy, destroyer of boards."

That's the greatest compliment Anand can get ...at the end it was attitude that separated these two

I believe that is Peter Thiel interviewing Carlsen. He is not only a billionaire entrepreneur, but more importantly a National Master in the US.

Carlsen is so incisively thoughtful! He nailed the psychological fear of Anand when he said that Anand was not taking his chances, but was waiting for the safest opportunities to play for the win. Once he sensed that, he was freed from his pre-match fear of Anand. Anand on the other hand went into the match being not in a great form. He also knew that Carlsen made very few mistakes relative to all the other players and hence he was fighting an uphill battle even though he was the defending champion.

I like it. Here I’m listening to how Magnus enjoyed the challenge of Vishy Anand, who had beaten him on previous occasions. So the challenge was to improve his game, and of course, he believed in himself, and then he put his improvements to the real test, and came up with the goods. It’s a great example of a champion’s mindset. With thanks 😊

I followed the WCC 2013 game-by-game, and I thought that Magnus was the GOAT. Amazingly strong.

Carlson is a quick learner, preying on the opponent's weaknesses. Anand towards the end turned rusty and smug leading to string of losses

Peter hien Nielsen leaked Anand’s prepared material and his weaknesses which led to his loss and Magnus winning its plain and simple.

Wow, the guy taking interview is Peter Thiel, first investor of Facebook.

Anand overestimated Carlsen and didn’t go for that killer instinct he had when playing previous world championships. Anand had his moments but failed to capitalize on them.
