Thank you for explaining. Not my cup of tea but I was trying to understand the German music scene and why this is so popular and whether it is a contributing factor in why Germany lately has been bad at picking songs for Eurovision. 🤔 I am hoping to hear less generic stuff getting picked.

As a metalhead I can remember watching a documentary about power metal where a lot of the bands who started the genre were from Germany and near enough all of them described schlager as a musical influence and tbh I can hear it especially in the choruses

Maybe you should try Viikate. They take influences from more melancholic finnish schlager music.

I like Heintje, Wolfgang Petry and Roland Kaiser, but i despise the Ballermannhits!
