The feature film introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob, a three-legged dog and a slew of ravenous creatures. “Inspired by classic adventure stories," said director Don Hall, “‘Strange World’ is an original animated adventure/comedy about three generations of the Clade family who overcome their differences while exploring a strange, wondrous and oftentimes hostile world.”
 
The voice cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal as Searcher Clade, a family man who finds himself out of his element on an unpredictable mission; Dennis Quaid as Searcher’s larger-than-life explorer father, Jaeger; Jaboukie Young-White as Searcher’s 16-year-old son, Ethan, who longs for adventure; Gabrielle Union as Meridian Clade, an accomplished pilot and Searcher’s partner in all things; and Lucy Liu as Callisto Mal, Avalonia’s fearless leader who spearheads the exploration into the strange world. “Strange World” is helmed by Don Hall (Oscar®-winning “Big Hero 6,” “Raya and the Last Dragon”) and co-director/writer Qui Nguyen (co-writer “Raya and the Last Dragon”), and produced by Roy Conli (Oscar®-winning “Big Hero 6,” “Tangled”).

I never heard of this movie until I saw all the news stories about it bombing at the box office. That's why I'm here now watching the trailer for the first time. The marketing for this was beyond terrible.

Bring intelligent, more serious writing, actually beautiful songs, and traditional animation back. If Disney and DreamWorks won’t do it, someone else start. Disney has definitely lost its magic.

This looks like something that would've come out between Atlantis and Treasure Planet. would honestly love to see Disney take some more risks on projects like this more often, looks really creative.

For something titled "strange" it sure looks "familiar" like a lot of other movies.

Also Disney just doesn't know how to do trailers any more - I feel like I watched 90% of the movie.

I'm going to guess that Disney was nervous about heavily standing behind a movie with so much of an LGBT friendly position, where the boy liked a boy and there was an interracial couple with a darker black woman. Middle America trembles, grandma in the corner clutching her pearls, aggressively religious uncle exclaiming "this is why the country is going to crumble!". "leave our kids alone!" screams mom who forces her kids to go to Sunday school.

Hence the lack of advertising.

People's complaints with the trailer revealing "all major plot points and twists" are not really valid because if you have watched the film, you see that there are bigger twists and lessons that are revealed. The messages of this film are quite solid, respecting the environment and not being selfish, and learning that you can love your family without everyone being the same are some of them which stood out to me and were not immediately evident from this trailer.

I'm here because I heard this movie bombed. To all the VFX artists that worked insane over time hours for this movie, you have my sympathy.
