For what I’ve been researching and read about the real life of Marie Antoinette none of these movies make justice to her. She was definitely a case of the wrong person at the wrong time. Yes, she liked to party, gamble, and splurge. But that was also expected of the royalty of the time. When she showed a more simple version of herself to the French people, they’d criticize her, then she’d show up in elaborate and expensive gowns and jewels, and they’d continue to criticize her. She ran charities for the people, and she’s known to have been a person of easy nature, good spirits. The French Revolution broke, they had no prove of any crimes against her, and yet she was murdered for “justice”. I am not an expert, far from it, I just enjoy history. And to me it would be refreshing to see a new movie that portrays her since childhood, how she was groomed for her position as Queen in French court and what all that entailed, up to her tragic destiny. Much of her history is often overlooked by the “ oh yeah she spent a lot and liked to party and gamble”!

"What sort of a husband are you?" reminded me right away of The Duchess, where Keira Knightley says in the same manner "what kind of man are you?"

I say the same thing about Marie Antoinette that I say about Catherine Howard, and with both the same equal amount of frustration and pity:
"That poor, stupid girl."
I know neither Marie nor Louis really knew how bad things were for a lot of people in France and that was because the court was designed to be as far away from (and above) the people as possible, but I still get the feeling that not many people see genuine naivety and ignorance as a good excuse, and that just as many people would argue 'They're the king and queen, they're supposed to know!'

I wish they would have made the hair and makeup more accurate. Also shown how filthy the palace was and how crowded.

Loved the show, very entertaining but I do think they over glamorised the era. People were not hygienic and probably not as crazy back then either.

Just adore this series ! It just gets better and better . It had everything great acting beautiful costumes lovely settings . All the intrigue back stabbing bitching ways of the french courts . It’s also romantic and funny !!! Liking Louis more and more at last he’s stood up to Provence his dreadful brother . Loving the story of Louis and Marie Antoinette . Loved episode 6 when Joseph Marie Antoinettes brother came and sorted things out for her and Louis . Episode 7 was equally as good . I didn’t like Madame Du Barry, the French grandfather, Louis brother and sister in law or his 2 horrible Aunts !!! I am hoping we will get another season of this brilliant series cannot understand why it’s not on BBC1 !!! Thankyou BBC for giving us something so good to watch !
