she would NEVER behave like this, she was well mannered and definitely knew her place at court.

I’m so frustrated by this portrayal of MA. Was so excited when I knew there would be a TV show on her life which would portray her accurately as a germanic princess (love kirsten dunst’s interpretation, but it was art not life).
I was aghast to see the filmmakers took the easy way out in trying to make her relate to a modern audience. The whole “I am a free spirit trapped in a cage get me out of this corset I want to run free and fight for my own destiny!” angle is just rehashing Elizabeth Swan over and over, and not at all compelling.
In reality, Marie Antoinette was quite the opposite to how we think of her in popular culture. Particularly in her youth, she was extremely self-conscious about her position and role in court life, and made absolutely every effort to be seen as likeable, compliant and gracious. She would never EVER have behaved in a manner such as this; it simply wasn’t in her character. More likely, when frustrated, she would react icily and withdraw into herself; the withdrawal of her usual warmth being adequate punishment for her displeasure.
I urge whoever may be truly interested in MA’s life to read Antonia Fraser’s biography of her, it is far more complex and touching than whatever this is.

I may be confident but I'd never acted like this in my entire life

Something I've noticed about MA is that every generation has given her their own spin by projecting onto her the ideals of the time. In times when people were more religious they portrayed her like a saintly figure. The 2006 movie emphasised the party girl aspect because Paris Hilton and party culture was in at the time. This adaption portrays her like a modern day feminist. But the truth is Marie Antoinette was really none of these things. The waters are so muddied because even back in her own day, people spread rumours about how she was. Very sad that some 250 years later, she is still projected onto rather than given the best effort to be portrayed accurately.

It’s such pity that the late queen should be portrayed like this. She has suffered enough. Let’s respect her and not say things which were not true. If she was anything she was a wonderful woman wife daughter and mother. Not a party animal like shown in movies. She suffered because of her mother her husband and the already dwindling conditions of France which were not her fault . She was misunderstood then let’s please clear the waters for her now. Rest in peace Marie Antoinette

Happy to learn Marie Antoinette was a middle class suburban housewife!

And another series making an historical person act entirely out of character.

Don't know who this is supposed to ne, bbc, but that's not marie antoinette. She wasn't a trouble maker, she wasn't agressive toward people, if anything, she was know to be overly diplomatic.

As for the "queer wife", please, if anything, the real marie antoinette was pissed of as the fact that louis didn't treated her as a wife for years after their marriage.

Anyone who unironically thinks she acts like this needs to remember Princess Diana who even with all her drama didn't act remotely like this and that WAS IN THE 80's

This is a modern woman, blathering... Marie Antoinette would never have behaved, in this unrefined manner...

Isn't it funny that the best telling of a Marie Antoinette story was done by a Japanese manga
Why can none of these movies and shows give us a good version
Yes I liked the Kristen dunts one but it didn't show anything about the revolution it skipped all the interesting parts
Only rose of Versailles did Marie some justice
Hollywood can't tell the story of a girly girl queen no they need a psycho or a badass warrior queen otherwise it doesn't work for them

Marie Antoinette was not a bad person overall, but she was not this self aware or aware of social issues, even ones that involved herself. She really wasn't very smart and wasn't even well educated by the standards used for women in her own day, which were already low.
