This is a magical recording. I never get tired of the powerful and mixed emotions it conjures.

When it hurts you’ll know it’s the right thing 🖤

The clouds move over Pontiac skies
Their silent thunder matches mine
I know this feeling from long ago
I wondered was it gone, but now I know
So when she calls, don't send her my way
When it hurts, you'll know it's the right thing
Michigan's in the rear-view now
Keep your hands, where I could see 'em
It took the words right out my mouth
When you knew that I would need 'em
What am I supposed to do now?
Without you
Without you
It's unannounced, like you'd expect it
I'm on broke down brake lines and Motown records
And all that's left is a blind reflection
But you know what's coming and you regret it
So when she calls, don't send her my way
When it hurts most it's the right thing
Michigan's in the rear-view now
Keep your hands, where I could see 'em
It took the words right out my mouth
When you knew that I would need 'em
What am I supposed to do now?
Without you
Without you
Michigan's in the rear-view now
Keep your hands, where I could see 'em
You took the words right out my mouth
When you knew that I would need 'em
What am I supposed to do now?
Without you
Without yo

This is such beautiful acoustic music. I'm so glad that I stumbled on it while searching folk music.

This song is exquisite. All aspects of the musicians talents combined describe the excruciating turmoil inside that can’t be described with words when love leaves and you sit alone in your own hopelessness

The guitar work in this is very reminiscent of David Rawlings for me. Thanks to Adam Savage for turning me onto this song from a recent video. Learning this one as soon as I get home to play.

Lyrics for my love-

The clouds move over Pontiac skies
Their silent thunder matches mine
I know this feeling from long ago
I wondered was it gone, but now I know

So when she calls, don't send her my way
When it hurts, you'll know it's the right thing

Michigan's in the rear-view now
Keep your hands, where I could see 'em
It took the words right out my mouth
When you knew that I would need 'em
What am I supposed to do now?
Without you
Without you

I'm on broke down brake lines and Motown records
And all that's left is a blind reflection
But you know what's coming and you regret it

So when she calls, don't send her my way
When it hurts most it's the right thing

Michigan's in the rear-view now
Keep your hands, where I could see 'em
It took the words right out my mouth
When you knew that I would need 'em
What am I supposed to do now?
Without you

Michigan's in the rear-view now
Keep your hands, where I could see 'em
You took the words right out my mouth
When you knew that I would need 'em

my platonic boyfriend (bsf with benefits) is from Michigan and I told him to listen to this song. He isn't the one to listen to sad songs, or sad love songs, because they make him emotional, but I hope he listens to this at least
