I’ve done that man! Last summer, I installed two 4’ X 6’ high walk gates. All of the components were similar except the brace. It wasn’t rectangular. Instead it was flat with a rib down the center. There was only one brace on each gate. That’s where I ran into confusion.

The destruction sheet showed it being installed in extension. Everything I thought I knew about gates pointed to having the brace installed in compression.

I argued with the local fence supplier and told them I wasn’t comfortable putting it in that way. They told me that I had to do it like the instructions or it would void the warranty.

Although neither hat is sagging yet… After watching this… I feel vindicated. I’m going to order a second set of braces and install them the right way.

don't trash the left overs....here we return it to the store that returns it to the one who made it, the can re use it by scrapping it ;) in Germany it's comon to do that even old raingutters and pipes..here in the Netherlands it's he new thing...remember in the trash it stays years and years before its gone if you burn it then it sets free hydrocyanic acid gas....

Great video. If you don’t want the double gate having a center post, example being for a driveway gate. Are you just adding wheels to the bottom to open the gates and carry the load? I ask because I am going to build a 12ft wide double gate for my driveway

We use that exact same rail. It's 1 3/4 wide You guys make the gate the way we did 10 years ago. Theres a much better way to make it. You dont need a Diagnal no matter how wide the gate is. You use a 2x6 for the gate end routed for the 1 3/4 x 8in rail Then slide the rail in. It slaides in snug. spread it apart a little with a screw driver and squirt a dab of glue in on both sides. And do it on all 4 corners. If you do that the corners will be welded with that vinyl glue and its impossible to sag. Its super fast and easy

Is it possible to make one of your kits work with a couple of 3.5 inch Simpson strong tie surface mounted post brackets? I have those currently right now but my pressure treated main post is bad and my gate sags.

Great video! I have a 7.5 foot wood gate with a wheel on it and am trying to replace with vinyl but not finding anything past 6 feet. With your system, it would look easy to extend the gate length. Why can’t this be accomplished?

Why not install the gate braces the same direction on both sides the correct position (lower hinge side to upper latch side)?

Consider this... Include a small packet of glue into the kit (to glue the caps). This would be inexpensive, and would eliminate the need for the customer to figure out (and locate and buy) what type of glue will work on vinyl. Also, securing the cross-bracing flush to the center planks introduces a bend to the cross-brace that weakens the brace (and IMO, reduces the visual appeal).

I have a request. Can you guess make this same video but with hand tools for those of us who are new to this and when I say new I mean new as in I have no tools whats so ever, I didn't even have a shovel when I started installing a vinyl fence for a client.
