I recently went to a train show in Franklin Indiana and picked up these 4 locomotives. They were untested and very inexpensive. Lets see if they will run.

Nice haul, I'm mostly hunting around for high hood GP7/9's my favorite locomotives, Athearn, Life-Like Proto 2000, (pre Walthers) And the long defunct Front Range Products GP7/9's They were the best of the whole lot they were super customizable, I would have put Atlas on my list but due to the fact that their frames rot out, I'll get Atlas when they improve on the frames with stronger metals.

I guess all my HO scale railroad engines and rolling stock is "vintage". The only non-vintage "stuff" are a couple of Atlas GP-7s in the Central of Georgia scheme I got not long ago. Everything else is 70's / 80's Tyco, Mantua, Life Like, Revel, IHC/AHC, etc. I have approx. 100 pieces of rolling stock that I spent nearly $400.00 on changing all wheel sets to metal and body mounted Kaydee couplers. When I was working on each piece, I weathered the piece of rolling stock including the trucks and rusted the wheels. I try to make the RR as realistic as I can. I've got several techniques for adding real rust made from 0000 steel wool soaked in vinegar for a month, to each piece so the rust on my models is real. I've even lit up coaches with my home made pickups for the wheels. I salvaged some thin copper from a few old computers to use for the pickups. Using LED strips, a mini full wave bridge rectifier and 3200uF capacitor (electrolytic) I added flicker free lighting in both directions to an RPO mail car that was begging to be lit. I have changed out the magnets to rare earth magnets on about 5 or 6 engines with open frame motors. Makes them perform much better with less current draw and they will now creep around the layout. GREAT FINDS!! The CSX Bright feature unit is an Athearn! The possibly problem with the CSX athearn unit is probably needing fresh grease and oil.

Good acquisitions: kudos! The Penn Central is an F7A, phase I.

That Athearn is a blue box with updated motor mounts.

The Tyco F7 will need its weight to run better due to being light weight from the missing weight. This weight helps for both traction and electrical pickup.
