Every January the Aylmer train show rolls around and this year was one I'm glad I didn't miss. There were many great vendors and displays available and I got some good deals.

Although I showed up on the second day of the show everything was fully stocked as a snowstorm had held people back until the next day, this meant I also met several subscribers for the first time in person which was a nice experience

I ended up buying several HO scale locomotives and a few buildings which should all go towards future projects.

There’s always more life left in a LifeLike! My first train set was a LifeLike F7 that my wife bought for me as a present. That reactivated my love for the hobby that lasts to this day. The train is not much aesthetically but it can still make it down the track.

Train shows are always my favorite part of model railroading. Been a part of the hobby since I was 13 now 62. My very first train set was a Bachmann HO BN GP 40. In those days they guaranteed the engine for life. I have some Life- Like engines as well as old school AHM. Nothing wrong with them. Sure Athern is awesome but, for the price you can't go wrong. Great video. I really enjoy your channel Harrison. It's great to see younger people interested in the hobby.

Thank You Harrison you made my morning, I just had a feeling that New Jersey Transit loco was a runner. And the luck of the Irish was on me. I am from Wildwood. A long time watcher.

I've had that same metra engine for 38 years and it still works great.

I'm going to a show in Ohio on Sunday, I don't really have the space for a layout but I have a trolley and some amtrak coaches because my mom sold my engines at a garage sale awhile back but I have my own place so I should be getting my first engine on Sunday. Keep doing what you're doing, it's a very therapeutic hobby and for me personally, my future plans for my layout is what drives me to enjoy the hobby, every new engine or building just adds to your passion for this hobby.

I have a lifelike F40ph in the Amtrak phase 2 scheme. I have owned it since I was little and its been a good runner. When I got back into the hobby less than 2 years ago, I polished it up and it runs even better. I did make a review vid on it.

really looking forward to that "budget layout" series as someone who doesnt have much money to work on a layout myself

Looks like a nice train show. With a good selection of train rolling stock. I have a couple of CN passenger cars from Rivarossi. Like the ones at :47. They are really nice passenger cars.

The “abandoned building” you have is an AHM Old Mine kit. They turn out really nice with some patience and attention, I have one on my layout. Great haul!

The two F40PHs you picked up, the Northtrain and Metra, are representations of Chicago Commuter Rail (like a before and after).
The Northtrain unit I've never seen before, but the livery is the same one that was done on the F40C units that ran in Chicago. The F40Cs were inherited by Metra (in their creation in the 80s). Only 2 remain out of 15 total. The Metra F40PH is what is seen nowadays for commuter service in Chicago, in the blue Livery. They have gradually repainted their fleet over the years to a new Livery, but a fair number of metras fleet of F40PHs bear the blue Livery.

A fun suggestion for the Athearn Soo Line locomotive: upgrade it with Athearn's Genesis motor (ATHG63842), which I believe is a 5-pole motor. That F45 has a lot of room for ballast and combined with a strong motor, you could have a budget DCC-ready unit that could out-haul a modern Athearn loco for about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost!

1:19 I was NOT expecting to see a NJ Transit F40!! That's awesome!! They only have two left in service: 4119 and 4120. I've seen both of them at my local station.

Converting the Soo Line Athearn into a power unit would be really cool, yes! Maybe putting the Digitrax 123 into it, too.

Nice haul on the F40PHs! On a sad note, the Caltrain F40PHs are being retired to make way for Stadler electric DMUs on the Caltrain line between San Jose and San Francisco. The one you have, #609, doesn't have a prototypical number because all of the Caltrain F40PHs are numbered from 900 to 922.

Keep up the great work and looking forward to you converting the dummy engine into a motorized one!

Oh man that old CalTrain F40 sure brings back memories, double so since I grew up roughly 3-4 blocks from the tracks (yeah I heard them a lot), but I remember my dad taking me on a trip when they first started service. I want to say that is the original paint scheme they started with too.

Always a fun time watching you go through old train stuff. Nice purchases. Can’t wait to see what you bought from the Flea Market.
