Due to nerve damage I can't do traditional back squats I do these and I also use a weight vest a heavy duty one that can take up to 50kgs if extra weight. Works well for leg conditioning

hits different zercher squats, and you dont need a ton of weight, feel it in my upper back and rhomboids..in a good way

LOVE the Z-squat, very difficult to go too heavy and ego lift, carries over to "functional" realms AND give extra stimulus to the back muscles which pretty much everyone neglects!

It's a lot harder to put a lot of weight on the bar because the elbows are a weakpoint. If you want to lift with the weight in front of you then front squats are better for most.

If it weren't for the fact that I already have some tendon damage in exactly where the bar rests for zerchers they would be the only squat I do. Clearly the most useful place for weight during a squat. Been thinking of rigging up some padding specifically so I can do them more.

Personally a fan of high bar ass to grass, but i know people that do these to great success
