In this short video I show you how to examine your chest after a mastectomy. Breast cancer can come back in the remaining tissue on the chest wall. It's called a local recurrence. It doesn't happen very often, about 1-3% of all patients, but you need to know what to look out for.

THANK YOU beautiful lady and doc.! <333 I stayed flat on left side, so this helps me so much, though I do go see surgeon's assistant a lot, I still needed to know this!

Thankyou so much. I found your book wonderful and am enjoying your podcasts. I have mastectomy surgery next Thursday for invasive ductal carcinoma and DCIS in whole of right breast. I would like to ultimately go flat but don’t feel this is supported by my surgical team. Its great to see that you also didn’t have reconstruction. I didn’t realise this. Thankyou again.

I feel like a bone type of after my 5 weeks post mastectomy in same breast, not sure what it is, perhaps that is normal. Had lymph nodes removed as well

I wanted to ask. I had 3 surgeries on my right side and finally I got a full mastectomy in 2018. I had chemo, radiation and now I am in tamoxifen. My question is that occasionally, I feel like muscle spasm on my chest and it is so tight and hard. My oncologist says is basically nerve damage but just wanted to ask if you have heard something like this experience this. In 2021, I removed my left breast, the breast was healthy. I don’t feel anything on that side. Meaning it doesn’t hurt it’s normal.

I’ve decided to go flat. I’m still 100% female. We are our sex in every cell in our body and it is beautiful.
