I heard the CEO of the Austrian nightjet? Interviewed on BBC radio 4 recently talking about this new service. He said the private sleeper compartments were usually booked up in advance by companies for their staff travelling on business. He also said the number one desire that passengers had was for privacy, hence this development based on the capsule hotel model. Thanks for this interesting and informative video.

As an older but still fully fit traveller, these look ideal. I never liked shared couchettes with families or groups so these might
get me back on overnight trains again!

This is hearwarming to see night trains making a comeback to the EU after a hiatus of a decade. Also products with the new feattures, such as pod travel.
Either it is the lighting, or in real- the paintjob of the train is gorgeous 😍

These look great! Can’t wait to ride them. Hopefully Amtrak is taking notes…

Very interesting concept, I hope this helps to make sleeper trains more affordable/attractive - would love to see this kind of thing between the UK and the continent someday.

Great movie! I do think that OBB should let pod-travelers know that there are two extra luggage storage options available, besides the lockers:

* There’s a large extra storage space ‘hidden’ underneath the mattress of the lower cabins.
* And, as you shown, there are large secured luggage racks available near the seated train carriage

I don’t think that all travelers know about these options, and OBB should put up a sign in te couchette car, to let people know that these extra options exist.

I really appreciate that you mention accessibility in stations and on trains.

I took the Nightjet many times, and I never booked a couchette. The only budget option was the 6-reclining-seats compartments, and it was pretty comfortable too.
Now the budget option is a standard seat in an open car. To the ones who can barely afford train travel, this is a step backwards.

I loved the step free access at Wien Hauptbahnhof and seeing that guy trip up! Comedy is all about timing!! Still miss Wien Sudbahnhof though and the Westbahnhof termini from back in the day.

Me, having watched entirely too many Japanese train videos: "Go buy a shower card!"

I like how Seat 61 gets a mention for some of the photo credits. THE GREATEST website for rail travel 👍

I had booked Nightjet tickets last year soon as Austria opened itself totally to the world. However, I had to cancel due to pressing issues at work. To date, I never have experienced a European sleeper train yet.

For those wanting to save up money for Nightjet, this is one of the rare moments that Eurail/Interrail passes would shine, provided you have at least a couple more long-distance train trips within a month.

I think something like this can replace 2AC coaches in Indian trains, especially the Rajdhani trains. Considering its broad gauge, wider carriages can accommodate this arrangement much easier than the night jet trains

We'll see much more of them in the coming years all over Europe, that's going to be great

This will make it so much easier for disabled people to travel long distances. Props to OBB for including level boarding.

I genuinely LOVE these mini-cabins! It'll be my turn to ride them in less than two months... ;)

I'm sad that they are not aligned in the direction of travel / opposite the direction of travel (as the new comfort-standard compartments), but rather perpendicular to the direction of travel. That still makes sleeping comfort not that good on curvy and older, more bumpy lines. But the solo occupancy for a decent price is a HUGE improvement on any previous night train product in Europe in the last 50 years, and one that I think will set a new standard and attract a ton of new customers. Well done, OBB!

I did this route but the other direction a few years ago in a six bed couchette. It was an awful night's sleep with people coming and going at the numerous stops and the doors banging every time which reverberated through the whole coach. These pods look to be a great step forward, but your experience shows a good night's sleep is still not guaranteed.
I do love sleeper trains and hope to experience this route again some time soon.
