LYRICS:
I’ve been thinking about my father lately, the person that he made me, the person I’ve become
And I’ve been trying to fill all of this empty, but fuck I’m still so empty
Yeah, I could use some love
And I’ve been trying to find a reason to get up
Been trying to find a reason for this stuff
In bedroom and my closet, the baggage in my heart is still so dark

Modern loneliness
We’re never alone but always depressed, yeah
Love my friends to death but I never call, I never text
La di da di da, yeah
You get what you give and you give what you get, so
Modern loneliness
We love to get high but we don’t know how to come down

If I could break my DNA to pieces, rid of all my demons
If I could cleanse my soul
Then I could fill the world with all my problems, but shit that wouldn’t solve them
So I’m left here alone
And I’ve been trying to find a reason to get up
Been trying to find a reason for this stuff
In bedroom and my closet, the baggage in my heart is still so dark

Modern loneliness
We’re never alone but always depressed, yeah
Love my friends to death but I never call, I never text
La di da di da, yeah
You get what you give and you give what you get, so
Modern loneliness
We love to get high but we don’t know how to come down, down, down, down, down, down
We don’t know how to come down, down, down, down, down, down
We don’t know how to come down, down, down, down, down, down
We don’t know how to come down, down, down, down, down, down
We don’t know how to come down

Modern loneliness
We’re never alone but always depressed, yeah
Love my friends to death but I never call, I never text
La di da di da, yeah
You get what you give and you give what you get, so
Modern loneliness
We love to get high but we don’t know how to come down, down, down, down, down, down

We don’t know how to come down, down, down, down, down, down
We don’t know how to come down, down, down, down, down, down
We don’t know how to come down, down, down, down, down, down
We don’t know how to come down
Modern loneliness
We’re never alone but we’re always depressed, yeah

Lauv genuinely doesn't have one song he's made I don't like.

I never really tell my friends my dark thoughts anymore. When I see them, I only share my happy experiences and funny encounters with other people. I only share those things that I think are worth-sharing and not those which are kinda sad and depressing because i’m super afraid that they won’t want my company anymore if i get too sad and emotional, if i show my other true self. I also don’t want to be a burden to them. So basically, i fake my happiness whenever i’m around them. But seriously, i’m very grateful to have people who I can call friends.

"Love my friends to death but I never call them, I never text them"
That struck so deep. I have recently shut myself out on social media even on text messages. My friends don't know what the hell is going on with me. Only to find out that one of my friends is going to another country the next day. I felt bad.

Man, this song is really an important marker for the progression of music- how the topics music covers is really diversifying, how people are becoming more open to talking about their personal mental well being, how unique our generations experience of depression is (surrounded by so much, with so many open opportunities, but at the same time so lonely and how individualistic we are all expected to be- not sharing our struggles, always striving to reach out "full potential", selfishly ambitious, shamelessly achievement oriented, fiercely independent and not to mention mind bogglingly "successful"). The lyrics are so simple but they speak to so many people on a personal level. This song really gives me hope, hope for the normalization of not fitting into the world's expectations of successful, happy etc., hope that we realize vulnerability is okay, that we're all as insecure, as lonely as the other person and ultimately hope for people to realize that EVERYONE has their own struggles whether or not they're open about it. Man Lauv really deserves a big thank you from us, because he's really out there speaking about things we can't be open about, he's really out there speaking for us and speaking to us and all the others who feel they're in it alone. Love this song so much for everything it stands for ♥️.
