Hey 👋 . . My name is Dominic simpson . . Also part of the wider family of the descendants of the crofters of Stroma . . This film caught my eye, as my father’s ashes are soon to be taken here and I’ve never seen anything more than photos of the island before . . Thank you for taking the time to create this as it’s brought a new sense of reality to the idea of the island, that will be his final resting place . . Somewhere that was always very close to his heart and his passion for the rootsof his family and its history . .

Nice video. Nice island. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to live in all that serenity.

2:25 - amazing how the erosion has left a perfectly straight channel through the rocks.

This is a nice trip back in time. I went over there as a wee boy with my dad, Charlie Simpson.

Hi Sophie, a great video of Stroma. I've wanted to go there but was thwarted by weather both times. I live near Vancouver, British Columbia but many of my ancestors lived on Stroma. I have the family tree and that takes us back to about 1690 and a map of the island. Almost all of the male children were named Patrick Sinclair Robertson or John MacKay Robertson, until me. My Great Grandfather is buried in Wick Cemetery (name incorrectly spelled Paterick). His house was on Smith Terrace. Jasper McKain lived there until about 10 years ago. Charlie Simpson, of the heavy events, was married to Kay, my 2nd or 3rd cousin, I think. I can never keep that straight. Her mother Kate was my Grandfather's sister. We're probably related but I don't know how, do you? I hope you receive this message.
Cheers, Ken Robertson.

Great video. Thankyou. Reminds me of my trip to St Margarets Hope, Orkney on the ferry in 2014. Would love to actually explore Stroma.

Sailed past this island one day in 2016. Wanted to get off and explore then, just as I do now.

Hello Sophie, I hope you're well. My name is Josh and I am an archive producer for an upcoming Fremantle documentary series. I am searching for footage of the Pentland Firth strait and I was wondering whether you had an email I could contact to ask for permission to use some clips of yours in our documentary? Thank you.

We stayed a week om Stroma back in 63, in the schoolhouse. In those days an uncle mine owned the island and grazed his sheep there,

I have been, its quite sad seeing everything just left to the sheep, You can walk in the houses, they are all wide open and full of sheep *hit now and falling down ( apart from one ) the owner will take you over in his boat for £100 as long as he is going to check his sheep, He wont sell the island as he thinks one day they are going to build a bridge to Orkney and they will pay mega bucks for his island, He is getting on so perhaps when he passes it will come up for sale rather than rotting away.
