China's former premier Li Keqiang dies of heart attack

China's former premier Li Keqiang died on Friday (Oct 27) aged 68, after suffering a sudden heart attack. Serving under President Xi Jinping for a decade since 2013, he steered China through the COVID-19 pandemic while it faced increasing scrutiny about its global ambitions.

In his final speech in March, Li described the last five years of his term as "truly momentous and remarkable". CNA's Olivia Siong with more from Beijing.

Opine, Li Keqiang, was among the very, very few TOP CCP Leaders, who was highly educated, highly intelligent and well articulated, with uppermost important, seriously and absolutely interested to work for the interests and up lifting the wellbeing of ALL the Chinese Laobaixing and Chinese people. 10 years in the hot seat as PRC prime minister didn’t gave him heart attack. Strangely just 7 months into retirement, under the best medical service and healthcare accorded to persons like him, died of heart attack after a swim late at night …?

Every time I think of him, I think of what he said in 2020 that 600 million Chinese are earning less than $1000 a year. His death died along with the hope of some Chinese.

Li Keqiang was a voice of moderation in an environment of authoritarianism. He was in favour of lifting lockdowns. Sadly he will be missed.
