Alfa have been on life support for 50 years

All of Stellantis' car brand image is non existent in South Africa due to poor reliability, horrendous costumer service during the 2000's and 2010's and much much affordable rival brands from India and China

Don't be ridiculous, you just bought 20% of a Chinese EV company.

It's by now just a badge name, there's no "special Italian wizardry" anymore.

At Alfa or Lancia, only the past is used for marketing purposes anyway. It doesn't matter whether Stellantis or a Chinese company uses it to sell its platform. The brands are effectively dead.

Ferarri was in trouble for years but they refused to sell to Ford. It’s emotion.

None of the Stellantis brands are any good. Calling Alfa “the jewel” tells you a lot about how crappy their other brands are.

In the US, can't remember the last time I saw an Alfa Romeo. For that matter it's been a long long time since I've seen a Fiat.

Alfa has made some smart product moves with the beautiful Gulia Quadrifoglio and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is well positioned. Alfa has not done a good job with marketing the brand in the US, the fact they are owned by stellantis is really the only hesitation I had when looking to buy one. You Sir are categorically wrong about the apeal of the brand for true petrolheads, imagine what a light weight high power ev would do for the brand a few years down the road when next gen battery tech is deployed. It would be the car lovers answer to souless Teslas

Well, let's see how much longer Chrysler will stay in the group first after being dumped by Mercedes Benz.

I am always sorry to hear that car brands are going to go out of business. Because the West did not invest in battery technology the way the Chinese companies have i think that it is going to be impossible for any Western company to survive. The style and personality of many different car brands been away for people to express their individuality end up will be what we lose i'm only a few brands are left.

You are right on Alfa Romeo, but Stellantis is right on the disaster in selling or JVing with China. Short term cash for long term ruin.

I drive an Alfa, you drive SUVs so I don't think you know what you're talking about here. Alfa had terrible reliability issues in the 1980s, not now. In the late 90s the 156 and then the 147 turned Alfa around, both winning European Car of the Year. The Guilia is, in my opinion, the best looking sedan on the road. You are correct, they are not selling enough to make a profit. I also think Stellantis has too many brands and is sticking with a strategy of offering multiple options when a more streamlined offering would produce greater economies of scale. I suspect they fear losing sales by cutting brands/models/variants. Some years ago the head of Stellantis predicted that there would eventually be only 5 car makers. I think technology has made it easier to share a platform between brands reducing the cost of variants so it's not so hard to have lots? Their strategy has been for Alfa to be their prestige brand and I believe they were going to go all electric. If they go electric I would be very interested in getting one.

Alfa’s have soul. I wish they could survive as an independent car company and make small runs of enjoyable cars. They have so much history.

No way can a company manage so many brands efficiently. Silly to have so many models also. It's no wonder cars are so expensive. Have a compact range and make each iteration of a model better.

The problem with Alfa Romeo's is that they have high rpm engines which will fail over time due to heat stress as well as have a Reliability Index of 214, which is very low. Some people buy Alfa Romeo's because of nostalgia, but when the cost of repairs and parts come in due to the frequency of repairs that will wear of.
If you look at the depreciation of Alfa Romeo Giulia it will depreciate 44% after 5 years, which is terrible!

I was sad that SAAB closed down but exactly what gap would the closure of Alfa Romeo make in the car market? About as much as the the gap you make when you take your finger out of a bucket of water. MG has gone from nothing to a popular brand under Chinese ownership and the fastest, most exciting MG ever made is an EV from China. Perhaps they could even revive Alfa.

For once i agree with Carlos, Alfa Romeo is the most iconic historic brand in the world. I would prefer to see the name mothballed than be sold to China.
