Ok this guy explained it horribly.

Basically the VOICE ACTORS that have made audio books already can’t do anything. The author pretty much owns the book and signs the contract for the rights of the Audiobook to Spotify/Apple. The contract says Spotify is allowed to take the authors audiobook they they legally sold to them and take the actors voice and use AI to make “them” read another book they have the rights to. The actor can’t do anything about it because of the clause in the contract.

You the average joe probably has never voiced an Audiobook before and therefore Spotify has 0 claim to your voice and making money over it.

TLDR; Unless you have voiced an audiobook already for an author you safe from Apple/Spotify making your voice read a book with AI.

If what you say is completely accurate, and the author is the one signing the contract, not the voice actor, then the voice actor has legal recourse against Spotify and apple. And apple will then have to sue spotify for selling something they couldn’t.

Fun fact! This is where Siri's default voice came from. It was originally a voice bank recorded by a male voice actor many years ago and through a series of acquisitions and mergers over some years the end purchaser, Apple, discovered they had a nearly complete human phoneme bank. I think it was an NPR or BBC radio article I heard it from.

And this is why I say AI is cool and all but their training material should not be "stolen" even if its technically legal because of small stupid loopholes, I can't remember what country but they pretty much made the ToS stuff that you "have" to read none binding for the user since they know and the companies know that no one is reading that stuff
