If you've recently taken delivery of the Gaggia Classic Pro, or if you've had it for a while but you've still not quite got to grips with getting great results when it comes to texturing milk - this is for you.
Scroll down for time codes.

I did a milk steaming guide on the classic pro a while back, but I've developed a better technique specifically with the classic pro since then, which is why I've done this updated guide.

I had my old 2011 Gaggia Classic completely rebuilt with new parts & added this steam wand to it,
Total was about £250
Best thing I ever did, the wand is brilliant, although it took me three months to master it👍

Holy crap @coffee Kev you are a freakin milk steaming Jedi! I was a complete failure at steaming using the Gaggia classic pro evo until I tried your technique. I even followed Hoffmans instructions unsuccessfully. Worked on first try steaming oat milk with your technique. All this while I thought the issue was the milk.
The trick I think was starting the steaming process early on before the steam light turns on because I suspect by that time there is is too much steam pressure. Also putting it in the front like you and steaming it vertically and lightly until it foams did the trick. Then I just got it swirling and it was perfect.
The oat milk was nice and foamy without any large bubbles!
Thanks again for a great tutorial - subscribed!

Could not for the life of me “spin the milk” on my 2018 GC with Silvia wand mod until using this method. Nailed it.

Thanks for this video. Bringing the wand to the front did the trick for me. I did not have great results with the wand pointing to the side.
No idea why, don't care, it just works 🙂

Just to point out that when I talk about switching the steam on and then starting after only 7 or 8 seconds, I'm in the UK, 240V power. So if you're using a 120v model just keep in mind that your boiler will be heating up slower due to lower voltage.

Thanks for mentioning frothy old school cappucinos Kev. I miss them!

Thanks! The trick to move the wand to the side of the jug was new to me. From your camera view, it was pretty closed to the side of the jug.

Still getting used to mine. I did want to say, I left the steam switch on by accident after steaming the milk, and the machine did not switch itself off as I though it would. No harm done but I did get a scare that I might have burnt the boiler. I don't remember reading this scenario in the manual - just letting beginners like me know

thank you for sharing. Actually a real cappuccino does have more froth and that's what I'm trying to get with this machin, with unconsistent results. What I do is letting the air pump into the milk right a mm under the surface and using a larger pot so to make milk turning in wider circles. It works many times but I'd like to get even better result and with small pot

Very good tutorial, I shall try bringing the wand out to the front and resting my hand against the drip tray, also the 7-10 seconds wait after putting on the steam wand. Mine is mostly very frothy which drowns out the canvas before I’ve got the milk portion in the cup.

Thanks Kev, it all helps. Incidentally, as you'll have noticed when editing it is easy to block the view with your own arm. The only way I can think of to reduce that is two cameras running and pointing at 90 or 180 degrees to each other. The sound that the wand makes is important but difficult to hear. I've no idea how to correct that. A directional mike perhaps? Cheers.

Thanks for the video. Your frothing pitcher is cool. Where can I get a similar one? Thanks in advance

Another useful video Kev.
I’m looking to buy the classic pro, but not sure whether to pair it with either the baratza virtuoso +, or their sette 30…?
I want to be able to grind for French press & at least ‘beginners’ espresso - any advice would be appreciated!
Cheers

After having the original Gaggia Classic for 8 years, it finally quit working. The steam wand worked very well all the way till the end. We just purchased the Gaggia classic pro, and are having a hard time frothing our milk. The steam wand is very noisy, and it seems like no matter what kind of milk we use, it's not creating foam.
