If you miss your family, watch this. | Mel Robbins

This is the first time in 26 years Chris and I are not spending the holidays as a family. I’m with our daughters while Chris stays with our son in Vermont where our son goes to high school.
The holidays are certainly going to be different for all of us this year. So why not lean in and do something really different? We used to have the traditional meal and get all dressed up but, this year we’re doing steaks and grilled oysters and wearing holiday themed costumes instead.
If it’s not going to be the same, shake things up and make it memorable. Here are a few ideas:
Costumes!
A different menu.
Pajamas all day.
A movie marathon.
Play games (our favorite is Heads Up).
Go for a hike or a bike ride.
Create a themed drink.
Make a scavenger hunt.
Do some arts and crafts.
Go crazy on the cheeseboard.
The point is: plan something. If you have something you’ve planned that you can look forward to, it will make your holidays better even though they’re different.
My favorite tradition at any family meal is to play “High Low,” just go around the table and describe your high and your low. It could be for the day or perhaps the entire year. As Chris says in this video, we’ll always have Zoom so our family will be playing it over Zoom this year.
