Lids are one of the biggest investments you can buy in the hobby!! Particularly I've found that the cheapest lids are glass from your local glaser glass shop running 25-75 cents a gallon where aqueon or marineland lids are 1-2 dollars per gallon.... Expensive fish are always the first to jump out of the tank!!!

Interesting rundown. I’ve heard that unfavorable conditions can cause it as well; be it temperature or ammonia spikes or even using the wrong plants can cause discomfort & lead to the jump scares. Glad you got the oscar back in the tank. Wait... that jumper from the top shelf; was that our honey gourami?🥺 Oh no...😭

Sadly trauma is an effective teacher. Glad you were able to share yours to spare ours.

Awesome video Suzy! Very informative. I haven't had fish jump out of the tank- but while trying to transfer rasboras, one jumped out of the plastic cup I was using... tried to save it, but the fall was probably too much.

thanks that help me inform my parents can happen, just two days ago I was accused of removing my fish out of the small open bowl but I didn't know that some betta can jump with my only reference is one of those betta playing with balls, that some what clears me but still sad on my fish that jumped wanting to be free, thanks and that made this as a lesson to don't overfill their tanks 1 inch to open space

@5:24 a FOYTH reason!!!! LOL SUZY you kill LOL I had a flowrhorn jump out of her tank and I THINK it was from a heater malfunction, she may have gotten zapped. I guess that would be another reason, electrical malfunction. Love your tanks Suzy!!!

Nearly three decades of keeping multiple bettas and no jumpers. Except for the time their tanks were 40 degrees. They did not die. They just couldn’t take it. (Neither could I). I lived in a duplex where the upstairs controlled the thermostat. I had a sadistic B word living above me. She bought space heaters and shut off the furnace. She was running around in sun dresses. It was 42 degrees in my apartment. Until we could get our own space heaters, I had to wrap the tanks in my electric blanket. Good thing I only had four then. They stayed toasty. I slept for an hour or so at a time. I had to keep putting my blanket in the dryer every time I woke up shaking. I felt so bad for them. I understood their misery. But they couldn’t understand it was no warmer on the other side of the glass.

I see my guppies jumping when there swimming up and down in the corners of the tank. Or if I go near the tank they jump. I’ve got a 0.3cm opening around the rim glass lid, I’ve saved two today. Now have straws covering the gap

Acouple months ago I added a coral beauty to my tank, he was a little bit aggressive during feeding times but the other 4 fish had been there for so long they didn’t seem to care.
Yesterday I woke up to my Midas blenny and 6 line wrasse on the floor :/

all my 25 tanks don't have lids . i keep discus. angels .rainbow fish, corys, two kinds of puffers, loaches, SAE and bettas .i dont lose many fish jumping .with my discus i find if they do jump they hit the glass or the light and i have had 5 die from this.

Or they just friggin crazy like Hannibal(clown knife) he kept flopping out in middle of the night third time I took LRB’s advice let him lay there a few minutes & think about it. That was so hard 😢 But worked he has decided he likes water better than the floor has not jumped since 👍🙏
