The fabric is gorgeous however and it calls me back time and again to open the box and admire!

It does look like a Dresden petal. Is the material from Feedsacks? It’s lovely and is worthy of being finished. Your great grandmother would be thrilled to know you are working on it. You should look for a quilt guild in your area. Someone might be willing to give you some quilting tips.
