Missteps can be made, but that's completely different from hating a franchise. If something sells horribly (it's the only logical explanation for G2's cancellation), it has to end.
I love the diorama but it's understandable why it got rejected. Constraction was already in its final stage after 2018, it only makes sense that they reverted back to 100% brick-based big figures.

my personal theories, why G2 failed:

1) it was formulaic and boring, compared to G1. Setwise as story-wise. it was basically a watered down version of Ninjago and the legend of Chima.
2) the team who worked on it, had seemingly no real interest in it. neither did it have a clue, how the story would actually play out.
3) Lego didn't advertize it very well.
4) the only memorable characters were either from G1 or the titans, that were overpriced AF. the Protectors were done really dirty.
5) the interesting tidbits about G2 lore were too obscure, to ignite any real interest. even for the most dedicated bionicle fans.

some concept art for G2 is genuinely better than what we initially got. there was even a Naga-guy!

If I may, I wanna recount a story: Over quarantine I met this older man at the target close to my house, he was actually debating on what lego set to get like me. Silence was soon broken and he told me about how he used to do seriously hardcore Halloween decorations, but his body couldn’t keep up and turned to lego to spend his time. I brought up how I grew up with Bionicle and system, but greater with the former. He seemed a bit disheartened when I mentioned Bionicle, so I asked if I said something wrong. He denied it and explained that he was just reminded of when he gave an Umarak The Hunter set to his nephew of grandson, I can’t quite remember that part fully, and soon found the unopened box in the trash. I was left at a loss, and ever since then I asked myself “Was I really the weird kid for liking this?” unfortunately, these events seem to be proving it true. He was a nice guy, and he seemed really passionate about lego, but that story just stuck with me.
