At this moment a friend I know for over 3 years is on a train somewhere in Ukraine trying to get to the west, to escape the senseless war, the attacks with bombs and missiles in Kyiv. Without a decent sleep for over a week I can imagine how she feels. 2 days ago she took the decision to escape the hell of war, flee away from the beautiful city she always lived in. All of her over 50 years of her life and memories packed in one suitcase, just searching for peace, rest and shelter. I'm praying and waiting to hear a signal from her again when she crosses the Polish border, a beacon of freedom. I just hope the rest of her journey to Flanders will be easier and faster. I will give her shelter and rest in my house, making a home for us till the sky clears again over Europe and men who are just out on power, ruling, money and aggression are gone. I pray in my mind every minute of the day hoping she finds a safe passage. I extend a hearty welcome to my house in Flanders Ekatarina. Who knows we will once see and feel it as a home. I promise here to the world and everyone who reads this text, that I will do my utmost best in receiving her, giving her the shelter she so desperately needs now. Clicked on this nostalgic song on a whim, found myself bawling my hormonal eyes out. My 13 day old daughter is asleep on my lap. I'm surprised that I relate this song to her but I do, I always thought of it as a romantic love song but I guess it can be interpreted in many different ways.
