Pangaea was a supercontinent that existed about 300 million years ago and began to break apart around 175 million years ago. It is believed that all of Earth's continents were once part of this massive landmass. The name "Pangaea" comes from the Greek words "pan" meaning "all" and "gaea" meaning "Earth". The breakup of Pangaea eventually led to the formation of the modern continents and the creation of the Atlantic Ocean
