Gravitational waves show scientists the invisible universe

When the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) announced in 2016 that it had discovered gravitational waves, it was a breakthrough moment for astrophysics.

They’re a revolutionary new way to study outer space without light—to observe things telescopes can’t, and study the invisible parts of the universe.

This week, Quartz News visits LIGO in Livingston, Louisiana to learn more about how thousands of scientists around the world are looking to use gravitational waves to learn about everything from the Big Bang to some of the biggest events shaping the cosmos.

Oh man oh man I wish I could finish the video. The narration and background music was too irritating

Sounds like a soft spoken Cobra Commander doing the narration

I love Quatz but...they need a narrator...a professional narrator.

It’s amazing that we live in a world where so much knowledge are being known shared all over ; amazing human brains ... I wish I could be dotted of one of them to understand further on this amazing topic and on the whole why are we on earth

Great show, but could not watch because that narration voice is so off-putting 😬 🧚‍♀️

It's like a silly snake is narrating this video.

Props to the narrator.

While i respect the opinion of those who complain about the narrator, i have to say, i really liked the narration.
I only noticed the lisping in the beginning, because well... it unusual, but soon after that i got totally immersed into the video.
The unique voice of him really facilitated the immersion and gave the video a unique touche.

Would like to see (hear) more of him!

I really really liked the narrator. He seemed passionate about the topic. Don't listen to the others.

Who else knows that gravity is a weak force on Earth and does not exist in space. Which is why they have invented so much dark matter to make up for the lack of strong gravitational forces in space. Wave function detected in space is from the electro magnetic plasma and toroidal fields the plasma creates around objects. If you want to understand this just watch the videos on Thunderboltsproject channel, David Le Point channel and Theoria Apophasis channel.

Isn’t there wave “pollution”? I imagine there are thousands of things colliding, collided. Especially they said we should still be able to hear waves from the big bang. Educate me...

i only live like 5-10 miles away from LIGO so i’m representing all my louisiana folks out there lmao

Guys, just turn the sound off and the subtitles on. The content is great!

That being said, I almost gave up on this video: his speech mannerisms couldn't be more irritating: he sounds like a snake with a severe case of vocal-fry. He really should seek a speech therapist.

You look for the gravitational wave background

Let's ponder on that when back in what was at the forties and fifties

Bell labs couldn't figure out some background noise

And then somebody postulated said it was the noise from the universe

When we know it was in our own galactic arena

Please continue

To those of you wanting a different narrator- how is that any different from, for example, a racist wanting a host of a particular race simply because of their race?
To me, both of you seem to be making the argument that your superficial aesthetic values should take precedence over content and over what the individual can bring to the table. The host in this video is 100% understandable, and the video is very interesting and informative. I see no legitimate reason to complain about him. I think that instead of questioning quartz, you all should be questioning your standards and values. I don't think it is acceptable to discriminate against people simply because they don't pronounce things exactly how you would prefer them to be pronounced.

Can two gravitational waves cancel each other? If so I wonder if we could artificially produce them and create antigravity.

I just love your voice and the background music, it's calming.
