I’m a grandmother now and host most holidays for our two grown children and their families. I ALWAYS set a pretty table with my best china and I have several sets. My little grandchildren are growing up drinking out of crystal glasses! Several times I’ve been told by friends how silly I’m being and why do so much extra work for what??? Not too long ago, one holiday, my son and daughter were visiting about memories of growing up. My daughter said, ” one of my favorite memories is how mom sets a fancy table!” My son said, ” yes, mine too! It just makes the food so yummy!” I your best!

Great little actresses there :--) my 18yo had 3 of her girlfriends over last night. They cooked dinner together. I thought they'd eat their spaghetti bolognaise while watching a movie, but they sat at the big dining table with the candles lit and chatted happily, then congregated around the fireplace with cups of tea. I was thrilled.

One of my favorite reasons to carry a clean handkerchief with me: I always seem to be in situations when people start crying!

Sometimes, handing a handkerchief to someone to wipe their eyes is a perfect way to say what I don't know how to say in words. :)

Love this series. My mother saved so many of her things. Sadly she died after a long illness having not enjoyed them. It was so sad. She saved dishes, linens, nightgowns and perfumes. I’m embarrassed to tell my age, but rest assured, it’s never to late to hear good advice. Stay classy....it’s refreshing.

One of the alternating jobs my two sisters and I had growing up was setting the table each evening. Mum taught us how to set it and then gave us free reign to pretty it up. Candles and flowers, fruit, doilies. Setting the table week was my favourite. Better than doing the dishes or feeding the pets.

For this months Chic assignment I plan to use my fancy vases for cut flowers. I usually only use them if I’m gifted flowers and use a drinking glass from my garden cuttings. Beautiful flowers deserve beautiful vases. Thanks for the inspiration Jennifer!

I love the picture of you as a young girl! I’m one who uses perfume daily, getting a whiff of it throughout the day is so nice! Your parents’ crystal is beautiful!!

I actually added to my list candle stick holders. You’d be amazed how many beautiful items and are in secondhand and thrift stores and for amazing prices! I absolutely have seen crystal glass sets. Already on my list is a nice tea cup and saucer and nice serving platters to replace my old tired plastic bowls. I used to go to thrift stores once a year. I don’t need to spend a fortune to get beautiful things and I don’t need many things in general but I do note what I really want and slowly acquire once I’m sure. A candlelight dinner once a week with my family sounds just beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration!

We inherited the exact Waterford glasses your parents own. We enjoy using them every Sunday- it is a lovely reminder of the grandparents we love that are no longer with us.

I have all of these things and try to use them daily. My momma taught me that because she had an aunt with an attic full of beautiful things that were being saved for good. They were destroyed in a fire without ever being used.

I'm in my early 30s and when I was in my early 20s I found a silk and lace nighty my grandmother used to wear. Nothing felt more luxurious than having a pampering bath and slipping into it. Thanks for reminding me of the simple elegance we often forget in this harsh and fast moving world.

"Classy" is the word that pops up in my mind, whenever i see your videos 😊🙏 But your humble attitude beneath your classy approach is evident of course. Loved watching this video 😊

I don't own any of these things. Lost everything we had to mold. Because of my health money is scarce. So we live simply and use everything we own. But I love your videos! Thank you!

My mother had to work when my father left, so we were raised by my British grandmother.
She taught us how to set a proper table, always used the nice China, and crocheted the edges of pretty hankies.i still have some of them and just recently bought some new ones. I love it that you have reminded me to use other things that have been put aside.
Thank you. I enjoyed this video.

Even when we had an "indoor" picnic, my uncle insisted on using regular nice plates instead of plastic because the food "tasted better."

I am going to run upstairs, put on some perfume and get out a hankie! Loved your girls’ cameo! 😁

I was finally able to get to and open up a box of china that I had never seen in my life, that my mother purchased in the 80's, before I was born. I wondered for years what the china even looked like. I kept trying not to have certain expectations; I love florals and more old fashioned and traditional things. But I know my mother has very simple, even plain taste, so I resigned myself to that idea, but I just could not wait to have some nice teacups to use. It turns out my assumption that the set included teacups was wrong, I was so sad to find no teacups! I'm trying to appreciate the beautiful and positive aspects of it, though as it's a serving set, and it's only my mother and I, and we have no dinner table at this time, it's tough to find a use for these pieces. As for the style, it's lovely smooth china, with a simple silver stripe and edges. I'm trying to shake the feeling of "tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me" 😂 and praying that I can fall in love with it in the end, as well as use it!

Listening while drinking my coffee from my lovely sparrow cup. It reminds me each morning that His eye is on the sparrow and He is watching over me! Thank you for the inspiration!!🌷

Hi Jennifer
I’m new to your channel but have owed “Madame Chic” for a couple of years. I like to reread it for the gentle humour and practical advice.
As I’m quite old I’m a handkerchief woman - not for heavy colds but hay fever and tears. My granddaughters prefer using Gran’s Liberty prints over tissues and there’s no issue in the wash, if one is forgotten. I always have them in my pockets or handbags. Pulling out a screwed up tissue just doesn’t compare to a freshly ironed hankie.
All the best to you and your family.

I laughed so hard at your photos of the plastic covered furniture!! My grandmother and my aunt always had plastic couch covers too! I had thought that was a practice peculiar to NY, but I see now that that's not the case. I remember when I was introduced to my cousin's lovely fiancee from Chicago, one of the first things she asked me was whether we covered our chairs in plastic too? 😂😂
