the game also had a sequel, so everybody who played the game for free mightve spent money on the sequel when they wouldnt have otherwise

And there is me: I actually go "I'll wait for a sale" and got Half Life 1 for free.

Then again I also start to experience the Steam backlog issue where I don't even have the Epic Launcher installed, I just go to the website and reserve the free game of the week there.

Big props to the editor.
The "4.s" -> "4.si-" -> "4.6" joke was hilarious.

When i was young an poor i used to pirate alot of games. The ones i fell in love with i have now paid in full for and played through again.

I saw a short from an ex blizzard now indie dev who said that he adjusts pricing to region in the sense that they make the game cheaper in poorer countries. 20 bucks in the US are not the same as 20 bucks in brazil or 20 bucks in Thailand. In countries where the monthly income is sometimes only a couple 100 bucks, they cant justify spending 20 of them for video games or movies. So if you make it affordable for the people that live there, you get a bunch of revenue AND eliminate piracy. Because people will go the "legit route" if they can reasonably afford it.

Im glad Subnautica got the recognition it deserves, having followed the game since its early access almost like 10 years ago in happy to see it become such a recognizable name

Also it's been so long since it released that they made all their upfront sales, now deals like these mean they can continue to generate revenue of something that was already made.

Its also worth noting that Subnautica was actively on the end of its "lifespan" as a retail game. The game released in 2014 under Early Access, had its full release Jan 2018, and then was given away Dec 2018. On top of that people also got it on both platforms if they wanted to avoid niche issues (If steam goes down, you had the EGS version. Or if you shared a library)

I tried it out and years later bought a copy for my son. :)

It was the reason i got Epic Games Store at first place, and loved the game so much that i beat it twice, and Below Zero was my first game on Game Pass

That’s actually a good point. I bought Starfield knowing damn well it was going to be on gamepass (which I have) but hey BGS games are my special cup of tea, I had the means to afford it, so I bought it. Knowing that no matter what I will always own it. So yeah when it comes to games I like, I’m always going to buy them, because I want to play them forever.

Subnautica slaps and so does its soundtrack.

I made an Epic Games account purely to get free games. I think I've played two of them, but one day I'll play the others.

“You don’t go, well maybe next year it will be free, people don’t work that way” actually I work that way, it’s saves me a lot of money😌

The time it became free was the first I time I found it and it became one of my favorite games. I have like 400 hours into it 😂
Now I’m tempted to get the next two games, so yeah it was a good deal to make it free for a time

Real. People who pirate are mostly either young kids with literally zero income but their lunch money, or third world people making probably 200 dollars a month. People who pirate will never get the game otherwise anyways, while people who buy games most likely won't be bothered to learn the intricacies of piracy.

Still, for those who grew up pirating games, but now found themselves having an actual income, please do buy the games you once liked, especially those made by indie devs.

Also even if you're someone who has the Epic Games Store on their PC you end up missing plenty of them as you don't have the time or discipline to make it some sort of routine and so instead just occasionally check it.
On top of that many of the games I already owned and payed at least some amount for on console or got for "free" through a subscription or whatever.
Aside from that if I don't plan on playing a game right away I put it off because I know it will be cheaper later.
If I do want to play it as soon as possible but it's like €60 / $67 like BG3 I usually don't buy it regardless and put it off until it's around the € 20-30 mark be it through sales, codes or otherwise.

Piracy only affects the sales when the game is cracked on day 1 and specially when its an offline campaign single player

"because thats not how people work" that one friend: you underestimate my power to never buy the game

Theres a third category, “its on my wishlist, ill come around to it when i get to it, oh its free today? Easy snag, ive wanted to try this game but never got a chance to come around to it”
