Thank you for what is the most useful and informative review of the GH5ii. I can't think of a better way to review a camera than to show a real world production using the camera as part of the review. It is an ingenious idea. And CineD always does an excellent job at creating an immersive and engaging documentary with each camera they review in this manner. CineD has raised the bar in what a camera review should look like. Great work, my friends.

Nice review and mini-documentary! I love these videos with review and footage (my favourite is the one about the BGH1)

Johnnie! spot on! And great editing Luciano, thank you. even more curious about the upcoming gh6 now...
But the lack of events and still mainly working on live streaming and virtual stuff, what my heart really desires is a BM micro studio camera mark II or to put it differently: i 'd need a pocket 4k in/ with the bgh1 body/capabilities...

well spend 20min.. thank you guys

I think you did a good job on this review. I shoot live theatre, concerts and dance shows. I use two GH5 Mk2’s and one GH6. These cameras are equipped with Atomos Ninja V’s. I really like the fact that these cameras can record a 10 bit 4K back up internally in addition to the Atomos ProRes. The GH6 can record a 5.7 K ProRes as a back up to a CF Express card. This also gives me the option to punch in a little closer.

With the G9 firmware upgrade 2.4. I found that autofocus people detect using the single area autofocus is very effective in gathering b roll provided you keep the box on the subject. Not only that but it appears to maintain exposure within the box and not the entire frame as a whole

What do you think about the S5 vs the GH5ii for video?

Hey Johnnie, I'm from Singapore just like the lady in the stunning documentary you made! May I ask, did you use a gimbal for the S5 documentary you did on Ai Kishimoto?

i am researching this body right now and i really enjoyed the mini doc, it seems to really highlight the body's stabilization which is important to me. i would like to mention about people saying and complaining the autofocus cant stick to a particular face when there are other faces in the scene. the expectation that a camera knows your creative intent is an absurd measurement. thats like asking auto white balance to choose the color of your scene. which you took the time to gel the lights and windows with 1\4 ctb to cool the mood. cameras do not understand creative or human intent and you should adjust your approach to the situation accordingly. other than that the body does seem like a worthwhile upgrade even for the stabilization, 1.5 stops over the original is noticeably better in the field.

A good vide on the camera itself, but the documentary audio was clipping. Was it only recorded with the GH5mkII?

Hello from Toronto!
It sucks that they didn't improve the lowlight performance.
I shot my last 2 short films on my youtube channel with the GH5 and LEICA 12-60MM and the footage was great. But you can be the judge for yourself when it comes to some of the low light shots..
I guess I'm gonna continue to make short films with the GH5.

Great camera! I highly recommend people to stop recording on any 24 and even 25fps in Palm countries. The lower frame rates are over and today there is almost ZERO displays or monitors that will playback at the lower hertz. When the video is upload to Youtube no matter what frame rate you upload, the monitors or displays at higher hertz will create/blend/interpolate the missing frame and they will make your video or any video bellow 60fps flicker or strobe playback. Many have the illusions of the film look but recording at lower frame, but that is not even close. Create the film look at higher-frame rate and use a plugin or script to create the film frame rate when render at 60fps or higher. Anyway, great review and documentary.

Thanks for making this! Was curious how you think this camera would handle filming sports. Looking for a camera to film games - but also allow athletes to make a highlight reel with good quality video. Looking a X-T4 as well.

In April I busted out and invested in the GH5, G9 and S5.
So in June the GH5II is released and the long-awaited GH6 announced.
While very happy with my decision, I am now wondering if I should sell the GH5 while the resale value
is still good, and upgrade to MKII, or
wait for the GH6 at the end of the year.
Great doco, very enjoyable 👍

Good review as usual. Too bad they didn't use the GH5S features. To be honest, the GH5 still is a great camera, and much cheaper.
