a lot of dx12 games run with this but there’s a good chunk of games that need some work to get running. Also, titles that require anti-cheat (apex, halo) won’t get past the menus for now

Dave is the type of fella you meet on vacation, talk to him for a while, never meet him again, but have fond memories of the conversation

I know Mac's aren't meant for gaming, but the fact that it's beginning to look like the horsepower and software is catching up to make up for the lack of developer support is really exciting

Please note that this is powered by wine/dxvk(altered) which is also what makes linux gaming possible. (These tools deserve way more credit)
Therefore targeting both MacOS and Linux can be done at the same time in the future without needing a separate binary, a win for all!

Dave the kind of person to make a short and sweet video that's to the point without overhyping anything

This toolkit is mostly based on Wine and Proton, which has enabled gaming on Linux desktops and the Steam Deck. I am hoping that Apple will do the right thing and contribute code and improvements back to the open source projects that they're using.

I'm liking the look of this. This Gaming Toolkit seems like the start of a trend towards a future with gaming Macbooks

I don’t use Mac products myself, but I’m really excited Apple seems to be doing more to get games ported and Mac users have more options to play games. The lack of gaming support on Mac has always been disappointing. Anything that gets gaming to more people and pushes it into the mainstream is always awesome.

The fact that a Mac without fan can sustainably run cyberpunk is mind blowing

Crazy to me when some people were bemoaning all the time spent discussing gaming at WWDC. This is a huge development, and I'm glad to see it getting more coverage!

I can already tell that the big push for Apple M3 silicon will be gaming and VR. Now that Apple has finished the transition of all their computing products from x86_x64, their main focus will be getting developers to natively support Apple Silicon for gaming and VR. Developing for VR and Gaming require very similar approaches, and especially if you push gaming on the Vision Pro as a priority. I can't think of an application better suited to take advantage of the Vision Pro than gaming.

It makes so much sense for developers to do this. Macs, iPads, and iPhones make up an ENORMOUS chunk of the market share.

Getting diablo 4 running on iPads powered by M2 chips using a ps5 controller or even on a less “pro” VR would be amazing. Heck if optimized well enough, iPhones could run Diablo along with replacing the Switch/Steam Deck for a lot of on the go portable AAA gaming.

Games easier to port to Mac = more potential user base to play games = win win situation

If this succeeds, I’ll be happy that more people are able to access to gaming

So Apple is going to get into gaming that effortlessly? Nice.

I've been saying this since M1 came out - these machines are very games capable. I'm a game Dev and I was testing my own projects - albeit small stuff in comparison to projects I have worked on in the past - and the performance from just the base M1 was very impressive.

The more interesting part of this for me is not necessarily what this means for Macs, but actually what this could potentially mean for Vision Pro… if these games are running on a fanless M1 Air, who knows what types of games we will be able to play on this next Spatial Computing platform in the future! Seems like Apple really want to diversify peoples options for what they can do on their M series chips and I’m here for it!

More impressive is how informative this is in just 3 mins. Rare feat when people just waffle these days 🙏🏽 in Dave2D we trust
