as a spanish speaker, I understand her problem with a foreign language, I can hear english, I can read english but I can't speak it properly, in my defense I've never trying to learn english in my life, I just learning it unconsciously by watching movies, playing videogames or listeng music.

I studied Russian in high school and later in college. I'm an American so I little exposure to Russians. But I met an "East German" lady who struggled with English, but was fluent in Russian and German (of course!). We were best of friends and helped each other.
