⚡️FREE JSON training course and downloadable files for FileMaker developers.⚡️

In this lesson, you will explore the creation of JSON arrays, starting with the basic definition of an array as a list of values, which can be represented using straight brackets and commas.

We demonstrate that while numbers do not require quotes, text strings must be enclosed in quotes. Typically, arrays are associated with a key, such as "favorite animals," followed by the corresponding values. We also discuss how arrays can contain more than just single elements, including entire JSON objects with complex nesting.

When introducing multiple records, you will learn the importance of maintaining original key names to avoid duplication, which is achieved by using an array with a new key, like "contacts." This structure allows us to encapsulate multiple records, each represented as a JSON object, within a single array, resulting in a well-structured JSON payload that resembles a table with multiple records and fields. Finally, we plan to replicate this scenario in a sample file to solidify our understanding.

Knowing how to create, parse, and manipulate JSON is essential for integrating FileMaker with APIs, Claris Connect, Artificial Intelligence, and more. In the complete course, we cover everything you need to know about JSON from the perspective of a Claris FileMaker Developer.
