Nebraska boy dies after a 60mph gust blows inflatable bounce pad - Daily News

Caleb Acuna was taken off a respirator Friday morning after a bounce pad he was jumping on traveled 40 yards when a gust of wind hit. He was jumping with his mother and five-year-old sister at JK's Pumpkin Patch Wednesday when the forceful wind blew, throwing the girl and her mother off the inflatable pad.Caleb, however, suffered a critical head injury when he became trapped underneath as it flipped over and tumbled. The brother and sister were taken to Bryan West Campus hospital where the girl was treated for a broken arm.Caleb died surrounded by his family. The family were at a private event shortly after 6pm Wednesday at the Lincoln, Nebraska, pumpkin patch when the wind hit the inflatable, tearing it from its moorings and lifting it 30 to 40 feet in the air. Wagner called the gust 'unusual' and says the inflatable was tied down properly. The same gust also blew another large bounce pad more than 100 yards.Pumpkin patch owner Josh Kadavy said his attorney has advised him not to take questions while the investigation is ongoing. 'Our thoughts, prayers & deepest condolences & sympathies are with the family at this time,' Kadavy wrote on Facebook. 'It's been an extremely emotional situation for me and my family as well as the family of the little boy. We are continuing to lift the family up in prayer.'A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Acuna family with funeral and medical costs.
